The Biden administration announced an executive order Tuesday that it claims would shut down the US-Mexico border once border crossings hit 2,500 per day between points of entry for seven consecutive days — a “crackdown” that will still permit 1.75 million new arrivals into America every year even if enforced properly.

The order, which is expected to take effect immediately, would lift border restrictions two weeks after the number of crossings averages 1,500 for seven days straight, senior administration officials said in a background call previewing President Biden’s announcement, set for 2 p.m.

The new restrictions include several exceptions, such as allowing migrants to cross the border who use the CBP One mobile application at a port of entry, as well as “lawful permanent residents, unaccompanied children, victims of a severe form of trafficking, those who face an acute medical emergency or an imminent an extreme threat to life and safety and other non citizens who have a valid visa or some other lawful permission to enter the United States,” the officials said.

Even if migration is limited to 2,500 per day for a full calendar year, the number of crossings would hit 912,500 — a historic high compared to the rest of the century.

Hundreds of thousands more have been allowed into the US using the CBP One app, with CBS News reporting in February that 450,000 migrants had gained admission in the 13 months since the program was announced by Biden in January 2023.

Because they enter the United States illegally, how do we know we have an accurate count?

What measure are we reconciling our counts of illegal immigrants against?  There's no documentation to which those numbers can be reconciled with.

Biden order to block most illegal immigrants when crossings surge, as election nears

The White House on Tuesday announced long-awaited executive actions to stop illegal immigrants at the southern border claiming asylum if crossings reach a certain level -- a move coming just months before the November election and that could soon see a legal challenge from activists.

President Biden is issuing a presidential proclamation that will temporarily suspend the entry of non-citizens across the southern border once the number of average border encounters exceeds 2,500 a day over seven days, officials said. That will stay in effect until 14 days after there has been a seven-day average of less than 1,500 encounters along the border. Officials said it would make it easier for immigration officers to quickly remove individuals who do not have a legal basis to remain in the U.S.

In the last 24 hours at the border, sources tell Fox there were 5,200 encounters, and it has averaged over 5,000 every day for the past week. There were 179,725 encounters at the southern border in April, compared to 211,992 in April 2023, and 189,357 in March. While those numbers are lower than highs seen in 2022 and 2023, they still remain high compared to pre-2021 numbers.

So, Biden Admin has just admitted it is not trying to block all/most/many/any illegal migrant crossings.

 

Thinking like a turd ... the best away to avoid a "surge" is to reduce the number of "encounters" by reducing the number of officers, frequency of patrols, and size of area monitored.

No border monitoring, no border patrols, no border patrol officers, no "encounters", no problem.

Mayorkas won't find what he is NOT looking for.

In no way can Biden’s executive order be described as “shutting down” the border.

It bans asylum to some illegal crossers, with some exceptions.

It does *not* stop or slow the up to 1,500 migrants per day released into the U.S. via CBP One app at ports of entry, and does not stop or slow the up to 30,000 migrants per month flying directly into the U.S. and being released into the country via Biden’s controversial mass parole program for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans.

Unaccompanied children/minors are exempt from the order - which will lead to concerns about child trafficking, and migrants can still claim fear in an attempt to avoid deportation.

Also, asylum has already been banned for most migrants who cross illegally since the end of Title 42 last year - and that hasn’t stopped them from coming. Highest numbers in recorded history end of 2023.

The order may speed up removals to countries we can deport easily to, (Mexico, northern triangle countries, etc), but there has been no explanation as to how the administration will be able to begin mass removals of migrants coming from another hemisphere with governments that don’t cooperate with the U.S.

President Biden's Executive Order is nothing more than a desperate political stunt to try and stabilize his plummeting poll numbers.

From his first day in office, Biden has worked to implement a failed open border agenda which created this historic humanitarian and national security catastrophe. He has turned every American community into a border community and opened our country to violent criminals, terrorists, cartels, and poisonous drugs.

This Executive action does nothing to end parole abuses or catch-and-release. It continues the administration’s abuse of the CBP One app. It does not reimplement President Trump’s successful Remain in Mexico policy. It provides no new resources for border patrol. It does nothing to deport the millions who have poured over our open border every year since Biden took office. And it will still allow scores of additional illegal immigrants to flood into our country before any so-called shutdown authority kicks in.

Over a year ago, House Republicans passed the Secure the Border Act, which would actually fix the problem, but Joe Biden and Senate Democrats continue to drag their feet on taking meaningful action, sacrificing the safety and security of our communities.

Americans can see right through Biden’s election-year stunt.

On Tuesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Your World,” DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas responded to concerns that the exemption for unaccompanied children in President Joe Biden’s immigration executive action will result in cartels taking advantage of that by statinghat “We are taking it to the cartels.”

Host Neil Cavuto asked, [relevant exchange begins around 6:05] “[T]here are a number of exemptions for this, including unaccompanied children. And isn’t that a green light for drug cartels to take advantage of that, and the whole purpose of this sort of blows up in your face?”

Mayorkas answered, “Absolutely not.”

Cavuto then cut in to ask, “But who’s going to watch those unaccompanied children, if they are allowed in, you don’t ship them back, you don’t do anything like that. So, where do they go?”

The Biden administration announced an executive order Tuesday claiming it will close the border after illegal migrant encounters hit 2,500 per day between points of entry for seven consecutive days.

Five border agents told The Post the president’s inaction for three and a half years has already resulted in irreparable damage to the country’s national security, and they feel this latest measure is all for show.
 
“That’s like trying to plug the leak on the titanic with chewing gum. It’s way too little too late. He’s trying to act tough on the border but we know he’s been the most open border administration ever,” one agent said.

President Joe Biden’s much-touted pre-election border “shutdown” preserves multiple loopholes that allow unlimited mass economic migration into Americans’ workplaces and housing.

At 2:00 p.m., Biden is expected to tout the made-for-TV policy, which allows — but does not require — curbs when more than 2,500 migrants rush across the open border and through the unfinished wall every day for a week.

This means his border “shutdown” policy accepts the inflow of 75,000 illegal migrants per month — 900,000 migrants per year.

That planned inflow of illegals adds up to roughly one illegal migrant for every four American births and is in addition to the inflow of roughly one million legal immigrants and 750,000 temporary workers allowed by Congress’s 1990 law.

Yet the Biden plan also exempts a huge number of extra migrants who enter via his border loopholes. Those exemptions are already delivering at least 85,000 migrants across the border each month — or one million migrants per year — without approval from Congress.
