Phillips suggests Hochul pardon Trump ‘for the good of the country’
by Tara Suter - 06/01/24 8:57 AM ET

Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) pressed New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) to pardon former President Trump following his recent conviction in his hush money trial.

“Donald Trump is a serial liar, cheater, and philanderer, a six-time declarer of corporate bankruptcy, an instigator of insurrection, and a convicted felon who thrives on portraying himself as a victim,” Phillips said in a post on social platform X Friday. “@GovKathyHochul should pardon him for the good of the country.”

Trump became the first former U.S. president to have the status of being a convicted felon on Thursday, following a jury finding him guilty on all counts of falsifying business records to hide alleged affairs amid his 2016 campaign.

Shortly after the jury read the verdict, Trump railed against the hush money trial, calling it “rigged” and “disgraceful.”

“You think pardoning is stupid?” Phillips, also a former presidential candidate, said in a Saturday post on X. “Making him a martyr over a payment to a porn star is stupid. (Election charges are entirely different.) It’s energizing his base, generating record sums of campaign cash, and will likely result in an electoral boost.”

Trump’s son, Eric Trump, boasted about fundraising numbers for this father’s campaign following the former president’s conviction in the case Friday.

“What’s really amazing, go back to 2016 for a second, the largest fundraising haul in history to that point, we did in one day, you know, $16 million,” Eric Trump said to Fox News’s Jesse Watters.

She'll never do that, if her Dem Masters in DeeCee don't want her to.  Good.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Doing so might short circuit the exposure of the partisan lawfare that will be exposed on appeal.
That might save a few jobs of the people who have pulled this crap.
(What crime, exactly, was covered up?)
In that the Dems might actually benefit, because their perfidy toward the Constitution will be on display, as well as the emotionally charged willingness of the Media Mob to lynch him if the truth of this nonsense comes out.

A pardon is not the desired outcome, overturning the whole dungheap is.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

There is no rule that says Trump has to accept a Pardon.  My guess is he would not.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Why would he accept a pardon for a non crime?

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
