Trump leads Biden 54% to 42% among independent voters nationwide: NPR/PBS/Marist poll
Notably, in the five-way race Trump and Biden are tied for non-white support at 41 percent.
 
 

A new poll out on Thursday has revealed that Donald Trump has a commanding lead over Joe Biden among independent voters nationwide in a head-to-head matchup. Trump noted the new polling results on Thursday morning outside the courthouse, saying "that’s the best we’ve ever had."

The NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll found that 54 percent of independent voters said they would cast their ballot for Trump, while 42 percent said they would vote for Biden.
 
Despite this lead, however, Trump trailed Biden in the head-to-head matchup by just 2 points among registered voters, at 50 to 48 percent. This small lead for Biden comes as 92 percent of Democrat voters said they would vote for Biden, while 90 percent of GOP voters said they would vote for Trump.

I wouldn't have much faith in any poll at any time by so-called "independent" voters.

The reason they're "independent" is because they're too wishy-washy to take sides and make a definitive choice, either way.

Like the waving wheat of Kansas, they first blow in one direction, then the other, propelled by the wind without any core beliefs or principles.

Here today.
Gone tomorrow.

And their political "commitments" are nothing but a memory.
