Former President Trump sat down with podcaster Tim Pool during his visit to the Libertarian National Convention, which aired on Monday evening.

Trump proposed "immunity" for police officers in order to facilitate the deportation of "millions" of illegal immigrants.

"It will really be done with local police," Trump said. "Do you know, the respect has been taken away, the honor has been taken away from our police forces. They’re not allowed to do anything, and whether it’s libertarian or not libertarian, people have to have, you have to have law and order. You can’t have 500 people walking into a department store and just walking out with everything they have, and we have to give honor and respect back, and I believe immunity because, you know, so often when a police person does their job they end up with no pension, they end up with no house, they end up with no family. Everything’s taken away from them. They have to get their own lawyer. So we’re gonna give them back their dignity and their strength."


"When it comes to foreign policy, I didn't vote for you in 2016," Tim Pool told Trump. "I was jaded, Obama let me down... And then in 2020, with the timeline for getting out of Afghanistan, when you tried to get our troops out of Syria -- the question is why are we even in Syria? Nobody knew! Maybe it is a little blunt to say I want to see people prosecuted, but in terms of foreign policy I think you're the greatest president of my lifetime."

:pondering: Mass deportations done with the aid of the police...the same police of which there are so few in blue cities/states that they can't even deal with the crimes they have without becoming an arm of ICE? Oh yeah that's gonna happen!

Police don't need immunity to carry out deportations, only orders to cooperate with ICE and ICE being run by an administration that wants to deport those here with neither a visa nor a legitimate asylum claim.

Police already have too much (qualified) immunity, which is what leads to them shooting non-treatening dogs, using pretextual traffic stops to harass black folk (yes, they do that disproportiontely in comparison to the share of their population, though they do not shoot black folk disproportionately to their share of the population), misusing asset forfeiture to seize property of people not even accused of crimes, facing no consequences for serving no-knock warrants at the wrong address, and a whole lot of other bad behavior.  Giving them another layer for immigration enforcement will have the result of Hispanic folk here legally being harassed because it's easier just to go after folks who look like they came from South or Central America, rather than actually figuring out who really is here illegally.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

You raise good points. Simply give them the power to enforce the Law, cooperation in doing so from the Federal Agencies which have not been doing their jobs (even if that takes some changes in personnel and force structure).
There are things we do not want police to do, and 'immunity' should not be extended nor expanded to the degree there is no accountability. That said, nonsense like the 'St. George of Floyd' trials should never have occurred. Naked Pandering to false narratives to 'win' the support of people who have been misled, even in the face of threats of violent behaviour, should never be tolerated, nor should the falsehood leading to incitement to riot be tolerated by anyone, regardless of office, press pass, occupation, or social status.

We must be careful not to braid the rope that will be used by our enemies (and those of the Republic) to hang us if they get the chance.
