Was that "Daisy" ad really what did him in? The election was just a year after the assassination of JFK and Johnson was already the incumbent which are hard to beat

Admittedly, Goldwater had a tough fight to topple Johnson in the aftermath of "Camelot," but yeah, "Daisy" did a lot of damage by coloring him as a "warmonger," his libertarianism aside.

Watch the ad (I linked it upthread) from the viewpoint of a person looking on the world on the heels of the Cuban Missile Crisis...in the days of 'Duck and Cover', with Fallout Shelter signs on nearly every urban street corner.

Yeah, I'd say it had an impact, maybe not on the Right, but in the middle.

I think a lot of them see it as a get-rich-quick opportunity too. Cryptocurrency stopped being meaningful for its intended purpose as a currency when speculators started using it as an investment.
