1. Do you have a doppelganger? (Has anyone ever told you that you look like someone who's "famous" or "infamous"? Do you agree/disagree?)

2. What's something you're kind of snobby about?

3. At what age did you consider yourself an adult?

Secret message, y'all!

P.S. It's Cinco de Mayo. Are you going to get in a huff about it or are you going to enjoy some delicious Mexican food today? Or both?

Not that anyone ever needs an excuse for having Mexican food.

When I was in high school and The Dick Van Dyke show was on (new, not reruns), my friends told me I look like Mary Tyler Moore. I didn't necessarily agree at the time (although we had the same hair), but as I look at pics of me from back then, I think they were prolly right. As the years went on and we both aged, I didn't favor her as much. Just a little bit during the MTM show years, but only if my hair was just right. When she passed a few years ago and there was coverage of her career in the news, I heard from a few of my classmates who reminded me of those days.

2. What's something you're kind of snobby about?

Like most Texans, I'm an uber proud Texan. We don't even care if people don't like us for our boasting. We're Texans. We're fine with it. It really is a Texas thang, y'all.  :tongue2:

Also, after decades of publishing, editing, layout, etc., I'm ridiculously knowledgeable about grammar, syntax, spelling and all that jazz. It's a blessing and a curse. I can't not see misspellings or sloppy construction. One thing that drives me CRAZY is when someone in the media uses improper grammar. It shouldn't happen at all, and it happens far too often. OMG, y'all! Learn the tools of your trade!  9999hair out0000

In my retirement years, I've relaxed and become more casual in my writings.

3. At what age did you consider yourself an adult?

Still waiting.

@AllThatJazzZ

1. At various stages of maturity I have been told that I look like Bruce Willis or (the late) John Heard. Now that I have a full beard, my wife thinks I look like Sean Connery. I disagree, but she's entitled to her opinion, and in truth I do not mind the comparison. happy77

2. I am snobby about about very few things. About Scotch and Bourbon, perhaps - the cheap stuff never satisfies.

3. I thought of myself as a "grown-up" perhaps as early as 21. But I don't think I really grew up until about 36, when my father passed away and I was forced to re-examine the direction and focus of my life.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Never! I'm unique and happy with that. Someone once said that I had a face tailor made for radio and that's true.

Back in my drinking days I was very particular but I'm over that now.

By the time I was twenty-one I was a Vietnam vet with a wife and a child. Had to get my act together but I don't think I really did until around age thirty or so.

It's interesting how different our approaches are regarding when we consider ourselves adults. Some make the assessment based on when they took on adult responsibility. Others when they reassessed life after a tragedy. I was thinking along the lines of when you stop being interested in doing fun or silly things like you did as a kid. Like climbing trees. Or playing games. Or having a pillow fight.

I had to grow up earlier than I wanted to because I had to take care of my dying husband in our early 20s. Many years before hospice became a thing. He finally succumbed to cancer at 23. I've taken care of 3 dying family members over the years. As y'all know, it's physically and emotionally grueling, so I always dreamed of fun ways to counterbalance that responsibility. If I had a decent climbing tree, I'd go out and climb it right now. But not before I queued up 911 on my cell. The old gray mare....

As far as I know I don't have a doppelganger. One of me is quite enough. :rolling: Although someone told me that I favored Kathy Mattea in my youth.

I can't think of anything I'm snobby about. Heck, I drink boxed, cheap wine over ice!

Given your description of grown up...probably in my teens. But truthfully, sometimes I don't feel grown up...even today.

I'm sorry about all you have gone thru. It's so very hard to take care of a loved one. It will grow you up really fast.

1. Do you have a doppelganger? (Has anyone ever told you that you look like someone who's "famous" or "infamous"? Do you agree/disagree?)

I was told a couple of times  that I looked like Sandra Locke (Clint Eastwood movies).  Not so sure I agree; but I guess I could look worse.

2. What's something you're kind of snobby about?

Snobby?  I don't see myself as snobby; though I've been told I can come across that way a couple of times.  Just stay the heck off my lawn!  happy77

3. At what age did you consider yourself an adult?

Oh boy ... do you mean people actually have to grow up?  I supported myself for the most part since I was thirteen ... but I got married, had children and well, the grandkids brought out the child in me again; water slides, go carts, pinball machines, state fairs, county fairs, playing board games, swinging on the swings, inflatable slides, legos, movie nights, tag, blowing bubbles, ice cream and more ice cream....

1....This was easy...I used to work for Fox Photo..a midwest chain that sold cameras, film..etc.

The big brass out of St Louis came up to our store for a employee conference at a local restaurant..all through the meal the head honcho kept staring at me to the point I was uncomfortable...while the meeting was ending he came over to my table and he told me [loudly] that I looked exactly like his daughter..of course I got a lot of elbowing from my fellow employees after that.

2.  Snobbish...well Mike should answer this one...he thinks my whole family is snobbish although he gets along with everyone...he thinks we were all spoiled rotten...

3.  I felt like an adult when I got married at 19...little did I know... I would never recommend it.

To lose a husband at such a young age would be extremely difficult and traumatic and certainly would make you grow up very quickly.  So sorry to hear of that.

As for climbing a tree -- that is one thing that I never was good at....and I don't see myself getting any better at this age

BTW @AllThatJazzZ  I am enjoying the Fan Mail Fridays!

I've been told I resemble Rick Astley. I'm a fan of Rick's, so I'll take that as a compliment.

2. What's something you're kind of snobby about?
Name brand groceries. My family grew up—well, not only did we not make a lot of money but we didn't always have a car so we were restricted to the grocery store a family friend owned in town. (That store would also be my first wage-earning job.) The store brands this store had available to them were NOT GOOD. Combine that with the autism-spectrum stuff and I developed an undeserved aversion to a lot of foods growing up. Eventually when Dollar General came to town I realized they were selling their name brand products at the same price the store was selling their generics—and oh, what a difference it was. Sadly the store shut down for that and a lot of other issues. Now that I have a driver's license, I take the 20-mile trip to Big Lots or Ollie's and get even better deals on name brands. I also tend to buy a local brand of milk only because New York has made farming so expensive and I go out of my way to support our local dairy farms that did nothing to deserve being squeezed the way our state does.

3. At what age did you consider yourself an adult?
I'd say when I graduated college. Early 20s.

1. My former boss, a courtly older gentleman, told me I looked like Kim Novak. I hope it was the "Vertigo" Kim Novak, and not the 2020s gargoyle/bad cosmetic surgery version.

2. My state is #1 in terms of "obesity prevalance." I'm a little proud of myself for being considerably fitter than most of our residents.
People have mistaken my introversion and quietness for snobbishness.  But I am snobby about things like wine.

3. I plan to consider myself an adult sometime in the next 10 years or so.

1. Do you have a doppelganger? (Has anyone ever told you that you look like someone who's "famous" or "infamous"? Do you agree/disagree?) AFAIK, no, for which the world might be thankful. yogi555

2. What's something you're kind of snobby about? Not much, maybe good quality running shoes, including for everyday wear. Age and plantar fasciitis have had their effects. Hoka blalanced cushioning, New Balance "Fresh Foam", and Mizuno "Wave" series have done well for me.

3. At what age did you consider yourself an adult? Probably in my early 20s, when I had begun my career.

I just saw this thread....

1.  Nope.  Like @Bigun I have a face for radio, and a voice to match.  I worked as a radio announcer for 16 years.  I changed careers because radio pay sucked.

2.  Snobbish?  Can't think of anything, actually.  I take what comes, I guess.

3.  Hmmm.  Sometimes I think it was when I got a divorce and ended up with custody of my son (who hates me to this day).  Since I got retired, I think it actually hasn't happened yet.  Life changed a lot when I stopped going to work at a job I really liked, until the acquisition of my company by a Dutch entity.  I spent that two years planning to retire soon, and my wife started looking for a house well outside of Phoenix.

@libertybele Thanks! I'm glad. It's a chance to step away from the world's problems and get to know each other on a little more personal basis. We called this kind of format a "palate cleanser" on a previous board where I participated. It helped lower the temperature sometimes, so I thought I'd try it here.

1. Do you have a doppelganger? (Has anyone ever told you that you look like someone who's "famous" or "infamous"? Do you agree/disagree?)  No

2. What's something you're kind of snobby about?  Tennis shoes ... as in, shoes I wear when playing tennis matches.  Diadora or Asics are about the only thing I'll wear.   Actually, I guess I'm a little bit snobby about my 'bumming around' walking shoes, too.  Since I had a horrible time with plantar fasciitis several years ago, I wear Brooks shoes.  The only exception to those rules was the recent past when the bone spur on top of my foot/ankle was giving me so much problems that I couldn't tie a shoe across the top of my foot and all I wore was hightops of some sort. Post-cortisone shot, I'm right back to my Brooks.

3. At what age did you consider yourself an adult?  I became an adult on May 25, 2022, so early- to mid-50's.  My mother went on to Glory and I became the matriarch of the family.  I feel the weight of that every day.

@Polly Ticks

We all have an appointment with that day, don't we. But it doesn't make it any easier, does it? I'm so sorry at the loss of your mother. I'm sure you'll do an excellent job wearing the mantle of the family matriarch. Your mother would be proud.

BTW, the first Mother's Day after my mother passed almost killed me. I thought my heart was going to bleed out that year. There were reminders of the day everywhere I turned. I was okay by the next year, but oh that first year!  8888crybaby

There is also a video of @jmyrlefuller singing the 'Star Spangled Banner' in which he does an awesome job.

If I knew had to look up past posts, I'd post it.

That was a treat! Is it a sideline or do you have any career aspirations in music?

@Polly Ticks

8888crybaby

@AllThatJazzZ  Thank you so much for the kind words.
Yeah, I pretty much dread Mother's Day.  My dad passed away on Mother's Day the year before my mother died.  May is a very rough month.

Yes!  It was impromptu when the venue was having issues with their pre-recorded version, if I recall correctly, and he was outstanding.

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Oh no, does that mean I've been an adult this whole time? Darn, there I was, setting goals, paying bills, filing taxes, etc., blissfully thinking I still had some time before adulthood set in!  :baby:

Thanks, @Polly Ticks!

Everyone, queue up to 17:23 to see @jmyrlefuller singing the national anthem -- NOT an easy song to sing. Yet he did it and, yes, he hit THAT note!
