Columbia University has been forced to close its campus indefinitely after an anti-Israel mob broke into an academic building early Tuesday morning.

In a statement hours after anti-Israel agitators stormed the iconic Hamilton Hall on the Manhattan campus and barricaded its doors, the university said it would remain closed "until circumstances allow otherwise."

"Effective immediately, access to the Morningside campus has been limited to students residing in residential buildings on campus (Carman, Furnald, John Jay, Hartley, Wallach, East Campus and Wien) and employees who provide essential services to campus buildings, labs and residential student life (for example, Dining, Public Safety, and building maintenance staff). There is no additional access to the Morningside campus," a statement from the university said.

It added: "This access restriction will remain in place until circumstances allow otherwise."

Columbia University announced a wave of restrictions on Tuesday for the remainder of the spring semester after anti-Israel protesters seized control of an administrative building on campus.

The Office of the President sent an e-mail informing Columbia University students, faculty, and staff of updates regarding student access to dining halls, transportation services, dormitories, and mail services hours after anti-Israel protesters involved in an encampment at the university took over Hamilton Hall, an administrative building, according to the campus newspaper the Columbia Spectator.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, anti-Israel protesters seized control of Hamilton Hall. Video footage showed the protesters carrying barricades into the building, smashing the glass doors to the building, and hanging pro-Palestinian banners from the windows of the building.

Before this e-mail, Columbia University had sent an earlier e-mail revealing that access would be restricted to the campus “until circumstances allow otherwise.”

In a statement released by Columbia University addressing the protestes’ occupation of the building, the university advised: “Members of the University community who can avoid coming to the Morningside campus should do so.”

Three janitors claim the pro-Hamas insurrectionists at Columbia University temporarily held them hostage, reports Fox News.

“They held me hostage,” one maintenance man told the Columbia Spectator, a student newspaper. Fox News adds that at around 12:30 a.m., the Jew-hating insurrectionists stormed Hamilton Hall. The mob then “shattered windows, barricaded doors using tables and chairs, and obscured the windows of the facility.”

Columbia University threatens students occupying Hamilton Hall with 'expulsion'

Columbia University officials warned student protesters on Tuesday that those currently occupying Hamilton Hall "face expulsion."

In a message emphasizing that the top priority for the university is safety, university officials said that the anti-Israel protests will not be allowed to disrupt the work of the university in violation of school policies.

"We made it very clear yesterday that the work of the University cannot be endlessly interrupted by protesters who violate the rules. Continuing to do so will be met with clear consequences," university spokesman Ben Chang said in a statement.

"Protesters have chosen to escalate to an untenable situation — vandalizing property, breaking doors and windows, and blockading entrances — and we are following through with the consequences we outlined yesterday," he continued.

"Students occupying the building face expulsion."

Chang added that protesters were warned their actions violated university policies and said participants were given multiple opportunities to leave peacefully. Anyone who respected university policies would be allowed to finish the school year. Those that did not have now been suspended.

"Those students will be restricted from all academic and recreational spaces and may only access their individual residence. Seniors will be ineligible to graduate," Chang said. "This is about responding to the actions of the protesters, not their cause."

The disruptions to campus activities and "threatening environment" directed at Jewish students contributed to a "hostile environment" on campus in violation of Title VI, the university said.

Columbia University protesters unfurl new banner at Hamilton Hall: 'Glory to the martyrs'

Protesters at Columbia University who have occupied Hamilton Hall unfurled a new banner on Tuesday from a window in the building.

The banner reads, "Glory to the martyrs." It also has a message in Spanish: "Tortuguita Vive la lucha sigue," which translated means, "Tortuguita lives, the fight continues."

The banner depicts the face of Manuel Paez Terán, also known as "Tortuguita," an Atlanta-based anti-cop activist who was killed for allegedly firing upon law enforcement during a "Cop City" altercation last year. "Cop City" is a derogatory name for the planned Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, a training facility for police and first responders scheduled to open later this year.

Imagine a year from now or so, after all this settles down and you walk into some office somewhere and say you have a degree from Columbia. They are as likely to hire you as they would hire a Hamas terrorist.

I know they all have their faces covered completely so to not be identified later. But all that is doing is to cause an entire rejection of anyone from Columbia U. Since we do not know if it was you, or if it was not you, then why take the chance of hiring a dangerous destructive antisemite? Cannot imagine what these people will face trying to get a job.

The feeling is drifting to, since I do not know what you did at Columbia during the Democrat led Judenhaufen, I will simply not hire any of you.

Northwestern Capitulates to Pro-Palestinian Mob; Offers House for Muslims, Scholarships for Palestinians

Northwestern University has capitulated to the demands of pro-Palestinian protesters who set up an encampment last week, offering scholarships for Palestinians, Palestinian faculty appointments, and special housing for Muslim students.

In return, the students agreed to take down their tents and to protest during daylight hours in Deering Meadow, the common space that they had occupied since last week and decorated with radical and antisemitic signs and slogans.

As Breitbart News noted, the activists in the encampment not only physically barred other students from entering, but also stole an American flag from peaceful pro-Israel counter-demonstrators and vandalized university buildings.

Jewish students had felt threatened by the encampment, a source told Breitbart News.

The Daily Northwestern reported the details of the deal:

The University has committed to provide a conduit for students to engage with the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees. It will also re-establish an Advisory Committee on Investment Responsibility this fall, which will include students, faculty and staff.

In addition, the University committed to some support for Palestinian students and faculty in the agreement. NU will “support visiting Palestinian faculty and students at risk,” and will provide the cost of attendance for five Palestinian undergraduates to attend Northwestern.

…

The University also committed to providing an “immediate temporary space for MENA/Muslim students” — a longtime demand from students on campus — and will provide and renovate a house for MENA/Muslims students as soon as possible. The final house is expected to come in 2026.

Funds for the new scholarships and faculty, as well as the “MENA/Muslim” housing, will be raised by Northwestern.

NYPD was seen mobilizing near Columbia University’s anti-Israel protest on Tuesday evening, video shows.

Columbia students who took over Hamilton Hall are now facing expulsion, according to a memo sent out by the Ivy League school.

NYPD also laid out possible charges for Columbia protesters on campus grounds in encampments and those who have taken over Hamilton Hall.

“For the individuals that are inside the Hamilton Hall building, [they’ll be] charged with burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief and trespassing. The individuals that are on campus outside, they will be charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry said at a press conference on Tuesday.

Columbia University faculty receive notice of ‘imminent police action’

Columbia University faculty on Tuesday received a notice of imminent police action as NYPD officers closed in on anti-Israel protests that have brought the campus to a standstill in recent weeks.

“At this hour, the NYPD is massing on barricaded streets outside the gates of Columbia University. Columbia faculty have spent the day offering our help to defuse the situation on Columbia’s campus and have been rebuffed or ignored. We have been locked out of our campus and have demanded to be allowed back in, and have been rebuffed or ignored. This is not new. Columbia faculty have attempted for the past two weeks to intervene in the situation, only to be shut out by senior University leadership.

“NYPD presence in our neighborhood endangers our entire community. Armed police entering our campus places students and everyone else on campus at risk. That is why University statutes require consultation with faculty — statutes which appear to have been ignored since April 17, and again tonight. We hold University leadership responsible for the disastrous lapses of judgment that have gotten us to this point. The University President, her senior staff, and the Board of Trustees will bear responsibility for any injuries that may occur during any police action on our campus.”
