Researchers say tire emissions pose a threat to global health, and EVs could make the problem worse.

When contemplating the emissions from road vehicles, our first thought is often about the various gases coming out of the tailpipe. However, new research shows that we should be more concerned with the harmful particles that are shed from tires and brakes.

Scientists have a good understanding of engine emissions, which typically consist of unburnt fuel, oxides of carbon and nitrogen, and particulate matter related to combustion. However, new research shared by Yale Environment 360 indicates that there may be a whole host of toxic chemicals being shed from tires and brakes that have been largely ignored until now. Even worse, these emissions may be so significant that they actually exceed those from a typical car’s exhaust output.

At a future date, a vehicle owner will be restricted to xxx amount of "tire emissions" per year.

Of course, the only way to do that will be to restrict the number of miles driven per year.

Over-miles will be allowed. However, the vehicle owner will be monitored (by government-approved monitoring devices), and "over-miles" will be taxed at a government-assigned rate, with the rates increasing proportionally as the number of miles traveled goes up...

I remember hearing 20 or more years ago about a local high school kid who did a science fair project on the amount of "tire dust" that is cast into the air. That student received quite a bit of media attention.

Calling this an imminent threat to the environment is nothing new. I just did a google search and found articles from years past, e.g., "Car tires are disastrous to the environment," etc. Looks like it reappears every so often to raise the panic level.

OMG! Just think how bad this is where they added ground up tires to asphalt used to pave the roads

None of these programs are anything more than an effort to make regular people (as opposed to politicians and their relatives,the wealthy,and the people neccessary to provide services for those above) home and off the roads.

People that are forced to stay home by circumstances are easy  to control since anything and everything they might need is delivered to them. Which probably sounds like a GOOD thing to most of them,and to EVERYONE who lives in crowded cities.

Guess what happens when those deliveries stop because you displeased someone in power.

Where did they take these samples? In the city where there is very little mineral soil on the highways? It wasn't out in the boonies, where dirt reigns supreme!
