Hawaii looking to introduce special tax for incoming tourists
Visitors to Hawaii may be hit with a new fee, following in the footsteps of other popular holiday locations around the world.

Tourists heading to Hawaii may be slapped with additional entry costs, as the popular holiday destination looks to introduce a climate change fee for visitors.

The new tax, according to the state’s Governor, Josh Green, would be introduced as a way to protect beaches and prevent future wildfires. Mr Green estimates the flat-fee of around $25, which would be charged at hotel check-in or vacation rentals such as holiday homes, and amount to more than $68m annually if passed.

“It’s a very small price to pay to preserve paradise,” Green told the Wall Street Journal, with supporters of the fee insisting that the cost is a small amount given how much damage visitors cause on Hawaii’s fragile ecosystem.

By means of shrewd lies, unremittingly repeated, it is possible to make people believe that heaven is hell - and hell heaven. The greater the lie, the more readily it will be believed.

They're still trying to blame global goreing for the Lahaina fires, not poor land management, I see.  Why the next thing you know St. Algore will be invited to talk sense to the Hawaiians.  Even a more perfect environment isn't any kind of incentive if it will bring in more visitors who the Hawaiians hate. :tongue2:

Hawaii already imposes one of the highest vacation rental taxes in the world.  Income taxes are very high, including those on business.  Maybe look at where that is going before driving tourists away from Maui.

Apparently there are no other beautiful tropical island vacation sites anywhere else in the world that Americans can go for less money and less (sometimes) belligerent people so Hawaii democrats feel they can tax tourists outrageously and they will still come. I mean it's not like the Hawaiian Isles need tourists

US Constitution

Article I, Section 10

No state shall, without the consent of the Congress, lay any imposts or duties on imports or exports, except what may be absolutely necessary for executing its inspection laws

They are proposing a tax on the importation of people.

And then there's

Article IV, Section 2

The citizens of each state shall be entitled to all privileges and immunities of citizens in the several states.

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
