Three U.S. service members were killed and dozens may be wounded after an unmanned aerial drone attack on U.S. forces stationed in northeastern Jordan near the Syrian border, President Joe Biden and U.S. officials said on Sunday.
Biden blamed Iran-backed groups for the attack, the first deadly strike against U.S. forces since the Israel-Hamas war erupted in October and sent shock waves throughout the Middle East.

"While we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq," Biden said in a statement.

"Have no doubt - we will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner of our choosing," he said.
Biden later asked for a moment of silence for the three killed service members during a campaign event in South Carolina, adding, "We shall respond."

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin echoed that threat. He and other senior officials briefed Biden earlier in the day on the attack.

At least 34 personnel were injured in the attack, but that number is expected to change as more people seek care, according to a statement from U.S. Central Command.  .  .  .

But we’ve seen more than 150 attacks in the last weeks and we’ve tolerated it.

We saw 2 SEALS killed in the Gulf last week and we tolerated it.

Flashback to 2011:  Iran–U.S. RQ-170 incident


Under Obama's watch, Iran was able to hack a US drone and force it to land (i.e not crash) on an Iranian runway, and then steal all the technology within including the transponder frequencies that US drones use to identify themselves as 'friendly'.

The Drone Attack by Iranian-Backed Forces this weekend on the Tower 22 Patrol and Operations Base in Northeastern Jordan was Successful due to a Confusion by U.S. Air Defenses, which led them to believe an Incoming Hostile Drone was a Friendly Drone that was Returning to Base.

This may be the 'official story' the Pentagon is putting out.  But it is also pure unadulterated bullshit.  The person operating the drone is going to know the location of the drone.  So unless this enemy drone is hovering over the US drone travelling at the same speed and path as the US drone, and reaching its target at exactly the same time, this excuse is bogus.

President Biden has vowed to take action against Iranian-backed militants in the Middle East after the drone attack at Tower 22, a post in Jordan near Syria's border, over the weekend.

According to U.S. officials who spoke with the Journal, the enemy drone was launched from Iraq by a militia backed by Tehran, but Iran rejected "baseless" claims it was linked to the attack.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin addressed the attack when he returned to work at the Pentagon on Monday after nearly a month's absence because of prostate cancer.

"Let me start with my outrage and sorrow for the deaths of three brave U.S. troops in Jordan and for the other troops who were wounded. The president and I will not tolerate attack on U.S. forces. And we will take all necessary actions to defend the U.S. and our troops," Austin said, while meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., who serves on the House Armed Services, Foreign Affairs and Intelligence committees and is a former U.S. Army special forces commander, told Fox News’ Harris Faulkner on Monday that Iran "has gotten the message loud and clear that they can get away with it."

Overlooking a refugee camp housing 15,000 people in northern Jordan, the secret outpost of Tower 22, on the border with Iraq and Syria, has long been strategically important to the US.

Little is publicly known about the military base, but its location just 12 miles from the better-known Al-Tanf US garrison in south-eastern Syria suggests it provides logistical support – as well as border security for Jordan.

Officially, the Jordanian government does not acknowledge Tower 22’s existence. Yet Al-Tanf has been a key US base in the fight against the remnants of Islamic State (IS) in the region and has been repeatedly targeted by militia groups. Until Sunday’s drone attack, Tower 22 had not warranted the same attention.

The killing of three US service personnel has changed that status – even though a Jordanian official claimed publicly that it happened in Syria – and dragged the fight with Iran-backed militants in Syria and Iraq across the border into Jordan.

Family members of Army Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders of Waycross said she was among those slain in the Saturday night attack by Iranian-backed militants on a small outpost near the Syrian

“Our family would like to thank you for the respect given to Kennedy. Munchkin will be missed by many,” family member Shawn Sanders wrote on Facebook.

Flags in Waycross were flying at half-staff Monday, the family said — and Mayor Michael-Angelo James plans to hold an honorary service when her body is returned home, WTOC reported.

The weekend assault happened at a remote base in northeastern Jordan and marked the first American fatalities from enemy fire in the region since US troops were placed on high alert after Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel.
