Holding steady? How's that even possible? My neighbors are a young couple with 2 tiny children. He has a decent job as a construction supervisor. They can barely and I mean barely afford to feed their family. Of course they can't afford any health insurance. And people are holding steady? Seriously?
@Jack Russell I don't get it,either.
I am retired with a very nice retirement package,and everything I have is paid for with the exception of a 2 year old 4 cylinder Toyota Camry. Which is no real worry because I have enough in savings to pay it off at any time.
Being a 100 percent service-connected disabled VN veteran,I have no real medical bills because the VA pays them.
And even with all those advantages over people who struggle with jobs and have mortgages,car payments,and health insurance payments to pay in the typical "mom,dad,and 2 children" family,I try to be careful about spending or borrowing money.
No matter HOW "well" you are set today,there is NO way to protect yourself from what MIGHT happen tomorrow.
I would have a hard time sleeping at night if I had to rely on the income from a job that COULD disappear on any given day,and had house payments and minor children to provide for.
I suspect that most of you who post her regularly shared the same fears years ago that many in the "working class" face today,but I think it is MUCH more serious today that even 10 years ago.
Wish I had some answers,but I don't. Truth to tell,the economy could easily crash at the rate we are going,and my retirement income could just "disappear" overnight,leaving me without an income and too old and too crippled to work.
And not just me,but the entire "retired population".
IF that happens,look for "ugly" to happen on an epic scale because when you create situations where large masses of the public have nothing to lose if they go after the people responsible,bad things ARE going to happen.
