While the Church is losing ground, another faith is gaining popularity: the climate religion. This is the analysis that Hannah Bethke, doctor of political science and journalist at Die Welt, published in the Sunday edition of the major German newspaper Die Welt am Sonntag on December 10.

She refers in particular to the statement made by the Catholic Archbishop of Berlin, Heiner Koch, on the channel of the RBB (the public audiovisual service for the states of Berlin and Brandenburg) in 2019 when, amid the euphoria of the climate marches, he commemorated Palm Sunday, which celebrates the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem and marks the beginning of Holy Week.

"Far be it from me to make Greta a female messiah by comparing her to Jesus," he said.

But society and the Church are still in need of true prophets

... that draw attention to dysfunctions and erroneous developments and propose solutions – even if they are not approved unanimously.
