Tides at the Full Moon and New moon are known as "Spring Tides", and the highs and lows are at their most extreme, nonwithstanding storm surges. Tides on the quarter moons are known as "Neap Tides" and ordinarily have the least variation between the high tide and low. It is all controlled by the alignment of the Moon, Earth, and The Sun.
