I just watched (or tried to watch) the whole series. What was cool and cutting edge in the 60s and 70s just looks hokey and stupid in 2024.

Here is the lowdown on MI from my mental brain dump after watching to whole thing.

The Mission Impossible team are portrayed as a high-level group of government spies, who keep the world safe.

In truth, they are a gang of criminals who go around the world killing, defrauding, and psychologically torturing people (especially very old men) to steal some item (often in very illegal ways) the U.S. Government wants, no matter how many people are killed in the process. They are not high-level spies; they are high-level thieves, con-men, and murderers.

Aside: Everybody smokes. All women are sex-kittens (more dangerous than the men), to be used and hit on by anyone. Sexy kitten sex is expected and is even set-up to be that way. Everybody drinks almost constantly. Black people are all "cool cat daddy-o's about town" who speak in jive talk. They say 'hey man?' at least two or three times in each dialogue. No Black guy ever makes a move toward a White woman and the word 'boy' was still in use at that time.

The one hit karate-chop to the neck is a rip-off direct equivalent to the Vulcan neck pinch. The one hit karate-chop knocks anyone out immediately. They just fall to the floor unconscious for the rest of the scene.

Some of the plot scenarios in the script were so completely prosperous I spit out my beer laughing. Electronic surveillance and computers and anything Space related were completely unknown and scary to the population of the time. So MI could invent these wild ass gadgets which were fantastical at the time but are just funny today.

The theme song is world famous. The best theme song ever. The song spells out MI over and over in morse code. M I - M I - long long M/ short short I/ long long M/ short short I/ long long M... over and over again. The theme is spelling out MI to a 5/4 beat. This is pure musical genius which will endure forever as a master piece written by Lalo Schifrin from Argentinia.

I enjoyed it and you will too as long you take everything in context of the times.

The first Peter Graves (Jim Phelps) was Dan Briggs, who was an actual decorated combat officer.
The problem was that Dan Briggs was an Orthodox Jew and could not work on Saturday.
This interfered with two productions time lines, Mission Impossible and Star Trek. (filming on the same lots)
Briggs was constantly bothering Shatner and Nimoy to pray with him, in the middle of filming. And they did.

By Season two of MI, the producers, directors, funders, could not put up with it.
That is when they signed Peter Graves with Brigg's approval. He had other things to do anyway.
And that is the Mission Impossible we wound up with, and it was great.

Contrary to media and tech companies what has been presented as AI isn't.

It is instead a sort of expert system that as can be seen isn't so expert.

There are expert systems that capture a few experts knowledge and
conclusions and put them on a memory device. So those less expert can
for example mine for oil, or minerals. When a poor decision is made the
actual experts are asked what criteria would correct the incorrect conclusion.
Color of our founding fathers skin just makes this nonsense visual.

In the current case it is garbage in and garbage out. The computer does
not think but it sees patterns and responds. In the current case it sees
only patterns, words, and pictures that are fed to it. They are people trying
to be comedians.

Supreme Court Justice Makes Insanely False Gun Claim

Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson seems to think bump stocks turn rifles into
the fastest firing weapons ever designed.

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments Wednesday in a case to determine whether the
federal ban on bump stocks issues by the ATF will stand or be struck down. The core of
the issue is the ATF - not Congress - issued a ruling to ban them. Congress is supposed to
make the laws. The ATF enforces them.

A bump stock is a piece of cheap plastic that replaces a rifle's regular stock, and uses a
weapon's natural recoil to increase the rate of fire by driving the trigger back to the shooter's
finger. The weapon still needs the trigger pulled for every shot, but it does allow an increase
in how that can happen. The newest Supreme Court Justice is under the impression it can fire
at a rate no human has ever seen before.

"The function of this trigger is to cause this kind of damage, 800 rounds a second or whatever,"
Justice Jackson incorrectly claimed during the Wednesday oral arguments.

That's right, folks. Ketanji Brown Jackson thinks a bump stock is capable of a gun being able to
fire "800 rounds a second or whatever," which translates to 48,000 rounds a minute. It's such a
comically false and absurd claim that I had to triple check to make sure it was real.

To make matters even more embarrassing for the Justices on the court, Justice Sotomayor felt the
need to ask why anyone with arthritis should even be allowed to possess weapons with high rates
of fire.

"Why would even a person with arthritis, why would Congress think they needed to shoot 400 to 7
or 800 rounds of ammunition under any circumstance," Sotomayor asked. Apparently, you lose your
Second Amendment rights if you have arthritis in her mind.

It's also worth noting these rates of fire also don't mean anything when it comes to total firepower,
because the standard AR-15 and AK-47 magazine holds 30 rounds. You can't fire ammo you don't
have. Having a rate of fire of 600 rounds a minute is awesome.

It also means you'll have to reload 20 times before hitting your 600th shot. Of course, everyone who
has any experience with guns knows this. Clearly, KBJ doesn't, and I'm not even sure what Sotomayor
is talking about when it comes to arthritis. Just complete nonsense.

We have reached the unfortunate place where those who make decisions about what we can use and how we can use it have no clue as to what we are using nor how we propose to use it.

It is pitiful that those charged with settling fundamental issues about the passage of laws, get sidelined into discussions of the matter of the law without any background knowledge of the subject of the law, but it typifies the trend of people doing something other than their jobs in obfuscation of the fact they are often not qualified to do the job they were hired for.

400/800 rounds per second (assuming you had a 10,000 round mag) - the barrel would begin to glow red and would warp and bend making the weapon useless. You would get less than 5 seconds of fire before you need a new weapon.
