West projects 'milquetoast' Biden set for an 'LBJ moment'

Biden challenger West confident president 'running out of gas' and won't be Democrats' nominee

December 15, 2023 08:13 AM

Independent presidential candidate Cornel West said he doesn’t think he will be competing against President Joe Biden in the 2024 general election, adding he believes the president may drop his bid for a second term.

West, who left the Green Party to launch an independent run in October, said Biden might take the same path former President Lyndon B. Johnson did in 1968 when he opted not to run for reelection after holding the front-runner spot for the Democratic nomination early in the election season.

“I’m not even sure whether I’ll be running against Biden,” West said in an interview with Politico. “Biden — I think he’s going to have an LBJ moment [and] pull back.”

West said he could be running against two prominent blue-state governors who have been floated as Biden’s backups but refused to launch a bid: Govs. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI).

Newsom has repeatedly denied rumors he will jump into the race for president in 2024, supporting Biden’s reelection amid allegations that the California governor is running a shadow presidential campaign.

Appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Wednesday, Newsom again confirmed, “I’m not running for president,” before taking a shot at Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), whom he recently debated on Fox News, adding, “Ron DeSantis, apparently, still is.”

Many of us Briefers have been saying this since Pedo Joe's election.

Timing will be at the convention, or up to a month before so the dnc can hand pick their candiate without their pesky democratic voter's input.  It's their mode of of governance.

Contingent of Obama, Rice, and Clinton's......   my guess.  And I still think the Wookie will be the final choice, and advertised as a 3rd Obama term.

If Biden ends up stepping down, it’ll be related to the problems that he’s facing between him and his son

The economy is not bad enough to act as a catalyst for his stepping a side

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

I doubt it’ll be Big Mike. No indication she’s interested and BHO stated in an interview that leaving the WH helped their marriage

If Joe is forced to step down, expect a Democrat governor outside of Newsome

Even after that Whitmer faux kidnapping claim scandal?  I figured after that she'd have tough enough time getting reelected.

She not only got re elected but turned Mi blue as Ca.

I thought her draconian lockdowns would cost her re election

Newsom looks to be "the guy".

I doubt it will be Whitmer -- she'll draw as many folks on the campaign trail as did ol' white joe last time 'round. Even The Party's underground (and aboveground) election apparatus may have a difficult time putting her o'er the top.

Hmmm...
In a pinch, who could they offer the spot to?
How about that guy (also interested in the job) who has the most famous name in DCommunist history (well, back in the 60's it was still the dem party)? And the actual lineage to boot?

Could accept a 'President Manchin'.  That's as Democratic as I could go.

Not saying I would vote for him.  But, the cheating bass-turds they are...seems he's more than an arm's length away from the Obamas.

Hmm….

I haven’t considered Joe Manchin as one of the possibilities that may replace Joe Biden should he step down
