In 2017, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described an onslaught by the Hamas terror group that would prove to be a prescient description of the horrifying events of October 7, but said at the time that his policies had deterred the terror group.

Hebrew-language media published footage on Thursday from a 2017 Knesset meeting in which Netanyahu described the terror group’s plans in eerie detail.

“Hamas has an operational plan for a multi-pronged attack, including thousands of missiles on Israeli cities, naval commando raids, hang gliders and incursions from dozens of tunnels, some of which come up in [Israeli] territory,” Netanyahu said during a hearing held by the parliament’s State Control Committee to discuss a report on the 2014 Gaza war against Hamas.

During the emotionally fraught three-and-a-half hour discussion, Netanyahu described the “special forces” that Hamas was training in order to murder and kidnap Israelis, a reference to the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing.

“They’ve assessed that if they can surprise us, they can put the plan into action,” Netanyahu said.

The scenario the prime minister described was similar to the events some six years later on October 7, when some 3,000 Hamas terrorists burst across the border into Israel from the Gaza Strip by land, air and sea, killing some 1,200 people and seizing over 240 hostages of all ages — mostly civilians — under the cover of a deluge of thousands of rockets fired at Israeli towns and cities. Entire families were executed in their homes, and over 260 people were slaughtered at an outdoor festival, many amid horrific acts of brutality by the terrorists.

In 2017, Netanyahu said that the Hamas leadership had begun planning a massive onslaught years earlier.

“At any given moment they could have put that plan into action, but contrary to popular opinion, we don’t control our opponent’s decisions — at most, we can influence their ability to carry them out,” he said.

While he claimed that Hamas was “deterred,” Netanyahu made it clear that he was under “no illusions .. that the terror group would abandon its plan.”

“When I thought about an infiltration of thousands of gunmen or more, seizing a town, capturing hostages, what a blow that would be, I flagged it,” Netanyahu added.

“We tried to avoid war in any way possible. We’re facing a hard and cruel enemy. To avoid escalation against an enemy like that is no mean feat. There are 30,000 [Hamas fighters in Gaza], wishing for our destruction and preparing all the time and building the means with which to kill us, to infiltrate, to attack us. People who are committed to the annihilation of Israel; it’s what they live for,” he said.

Netanyahu also highlighted his role in the policy of containment: “One of the reasons that [Hamas] is deterred is because I have a policy, that I’m not willing to tolerate droplets [of violence], and there’s always a strong reaction, usually very fast, on every such droplet.”

One of the most damning allegations in the 2017 report contended that better decision-making practices could have obviated the need for a military operation entirely.

The state comptroller report debated by the committee in 2017 was centered around the management of the security cabinet by Netanyahu and then-defense minister Moshe Ya’alon, specifically the cabinet’s alleged failure to set concrete, strategic goals for the military in the campaign. It also noted intelligence gaps and tactical mistakes by the Israel Defense Forces, then led by Lt. Gen. (res.) Benny Gantz, notably its unpreparedness for the threat of Hamas tunnels.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the severe terror attacks carried out by Hamas on October 7, stating that "nothing can possibly justify" such acts, including the harsh abduction of around 250 hostages.

In a statement on X, Guterres reiterated his demand for the immediate and unconditional release of all remaining hostages.

This post comes after the UN Security Council passed a resolution urging the acceleration of aid delivery to Gaza and the creation of conditions to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Are Joe Biden's demands that Israel pull back in its campaign to destroy the Hamas terrorists who killed some 1,400 civilians in the launch of a war on Oct. 7 "detached from reality"?

That appears to be what Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is saying.

Fox News reported he said in a video message this week that those who think his nation will "let up during its military campaign" are just that.

"We will not stop the fighting until all of the goals that we have set are achieved: The elimination of Hamas, the release of our hostages and the removal of the threat from Gaza," he charged.

"We are attacking Hamas with fierce fire, everywhere, including today. We are also attacking their accomplices near and far. All Hamas terrorists, from the first to the last, are dead men walking," he said.

"They have only two possibilities: Surrender or die."

He said, "Whoever thinks that we will stop is detached from reality."

Biden has been caught in the middle of the Gaza violence. Leftists dislike his support for Israel, and others object to the subtle pressure he's applying, through his administration officials he's sent to tell Israel to pull back in certain situations.

The dispute has divided those who may support Biden in the 2024 election, and he needs to appease both factions to gain their support.

The Hill recently reported how dissatisfied Americans are with Biden's Hamas war agenda.

"The New York Times/Siena poll shows that just 33 percent of respondents approve of Biden’s Israel policy, compared to 57 percent disapproval. The results also highlight the massive divide in opinion among Americans on the best course of action in the conflict," the report said.

The split is with one-third of those who disapprove of Biden's actions saying the U.S. is too supportive of Israel, and nearly the same saying the same of Palestinians.

I'm basing my opinion on Netanyahu's 30 years at the top of the Israeli national and international political pyramid @DCPatriot   IMO, history will prove the atrocities of Oct 7 were set in motion and made possible by Netanyahu's decades-long  "strategy".

For Mr. Security, a bit of war was a political asset ---- perhaps his greatest.  Mowing the grass in Gaza while authorizing and facilitating hundreds of millions of US dollars in payments from Qatar to Hamas was a recipe for disaster from the start. It served not to protect and secure Israel, but to keep a sufficient number of Israelis just fearful enough to keep him in power.

As for not knowing about the tunnels ---- Netanyahu knew. . He knew, his government, his security agencies knew and he was forced to admit they knew when the tunnels became common knowledge during the war in 2014.  Not only didn't Netanyahu destroy them then, he didn't attempt to stop their expansion in the years since.  Neither did he question where the money from Qatar was going.

Netanyahu ignored warnings of an imminent and massive attack from the IDF, as well as from Egypt.  Two IDF commando companies just days before the Oct 7 attack were diverted from the Gaza region to the West Bank to help with unrest there ---- leaving Israelis in the South unprotected for 20 hours. FWIW,  the settlers in the West Bank are part of the political glue holding Netanyahu's tenuous government together.

Yet, by his own admission, Netanyahu knew an attack of this scale was coming since 2017.  Read more below:

France, Spain, and Italy aren’t withdrawing because they don’t want to escalate the conflict. On the contrary, they’re withdrawing because they don’t believe the operation coordinated by Biden regime will protect their vessels. This is the result of a weak ‘President’ / lack of leadership.

Saw two Israeli women who were in the IDF raise the question as to why Israel was not forewarned with the equipment deployed on the border to let Israel know of activity.  They both indicated that if a rat ran across the area that Hamas launched their attack, Israel would have received a warning.

There are questions as to why Israel was not better prepared.

But in my mind, there is no question what Israel should do.  I fully support their complete annihilation of all of Gaza, rendering it uninhabitable for the next 100 years, leaving a clear warning, any activity in the area will be met with complete destruction.

Having seen the ruins in East Berlin from WWII in 1970, some 25 years post WWII, I say leave Gaza the same, in total ruins with the understanding that it remain uninhabited, permanently.

A United Nations official said in an interview last week that Palestinians who kill Israeli soldiers are not guilty of crimes because such killings are in line with their "right to resist," in the latest controversial comments by the anti-Israel official.

"If the Palestinians target civilian objects, they commit war crimes," said Francesca Albanese, U.N. special rapporteur for the Palestinian territories, in an interview on the podcast Makdisi Street. "If they target military objects, they do not commit war crimes—they are in line with acts of resistance."

Albanese went on to criticize "Western media" outlets that have condemned "every Palestinian action," including attacks on soldiers.

"The killing of soldiers—it's, I mean, frankly, it's a tragedy, but it's not a crime," Albanese said. "Instead, very often, when Palestinians manage to attack soldiers, they are portrayed as terrorists. And this is a misunderstanding that needs to be addressed."

Biden Fails to Respond as Houthis Attack U.S. Destroyer, Commercial Shipping

The Biden administration has failed to react thus far to a direct attack by Iran-backed Houthi rebels from Yemen this weekend on a U.S. destroyer and two commercial ships in the Red Sea.

The Times of Israel reported:

    In a statement, the US Central Command says the USS Laboon “shot down four unmanned aerial drones originating from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen that were inbound to” the frigate.

    …

    It says the Laboon also responded to distress calls after attacks on the M/V BLAAMANEN, a Norwegian-flagged and owned tanker, which was nearly hit by an attack drone, and the M/V SAIBABA, a Gabon-owned, Indian-flagged crude tanker that did suffer a strike.

Last week, the U.S. announced that it had assembled a coalition of nations that would cooperate to deter attacks by the Houthis.

However, it was not clear what kind of naval forces would be deployed. One nation, Spain, appeared to back out of the coalition a few days after being announced as one of its members.

Pentagon says drone that hit tanker near India was launched from Iran

The Department of Defense on Saturday said a drone that struck a tanker off the coast of India was fired from Iran.

The tanker M/V Chem Pluto was struck by what the Pentagon described as a “one-way attack drone” about 200 nautical miles off the coast of India Saturday, The Wall Street Journal reported. It is the first time that the U.S. has accused Iran of launching an attack on a merchant ship since Hamas carried out a deadly Oct. 7 terrorist attack on multiple locations in southern Israel that killed over 1,400 people.

“The motor vessel CHEM PLUTO, a Liberia-flagged, Japanese-owned, and Netherlands-operated chemical tanker was struck at approximately 10 a.m. local time (6 a.m. Greenwich Mean time) today in the Indian Ocean, 200 nautical miles from the coast of India, by a one-way attack drone fired from Iran, the Department of Defense said in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “There were no casualties and a fire on board the tanker has been extinguished. No U.S. Navy vessels were in the vicinity. U.S. Naval Forces Central Command remains in communication with the vessel as it continues toward a destination in India. This is the seventh Iranian attack on commercial shipping since 2021.“
