The mammoth spiderweb of underground tunnels used by Hamas to shuttle militants, hostages and weapons around beneath the Gaza Strip is “something that we cannot even imagine,” according to “Fauda” creator Avi Issacharoff.


The web of tunnels beneath the Gaza Strip is nearly unimaginable, according to former IDF soldier and TV writer Avi Issacharoff. Stephen Yang

Issacharoff — an Arabic-speaking Israeli journalist and former member of an ultra-elite Israel Defense Forces unit who co-wrote the award-winning Yes network hit “Fauda” — visited Gaza a number of times before Hamas took over the territory in 2007, according to the Times of Israel.

He said the latticework extends underneath the entire length of the 140-square-mile Gaza Strip and gives Hamas the ability to launch swift, Viet Cong-style hit-and-run attacks on the invading Israeli forces.

The Israeli army Tuesday said its troops have entered the “heart of Gaza” and trapped Hamas’ senior most leader there in an underground bunker.

Yahya Sinwar, 61 — dubbed Israel’s most wanted and called a “dead man walking” by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin — orchestrated the terror group’s Oct. 7 massacre in Israel that killed more than 1,400 people, mainly civilians, Israeli officials have said.

“[Israel Defense Forces] … came from the north and the south. They stormed it in full coordination between land, air and sea forces,” said Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, referring to the ground invasion, on Tuesday.

“They are maneuvering on foot, armored vehicles and tanks, along with military engineers from all directions, and they have one target — Hamas terrorists,” he said.

The Israeli official said Sinwa is now isolated inside a bunker, with IDF soldiers determined to destroy it along with any infrastructure operated by the terrorists.

“They are tightening the noose around Gaza City,” Gallant boasted of Israeli forces.

'Dead man walking': Israel surrounds Hamas leader in bunker and vows to eliminate him

Hamas’s Gaza leader is surrounded in a bunker, Isreal’s defence minister has claimed as he said IDF forces were “tightening the chokehold” around Gaza City.

Yoav Gallant said Yahya Sinwar was surrounded in a bunker but did not disclose the exact location as he gave a televised press statement this evening.

Gallant said Israel’s troops had stormed the terrorist group’s strongholds “from all directions, in perfect co-ordination with maritime and aerial forces”.

Sinwar, 61, has been previously described as a “dead man walking” by Israeli officials.

Gallant said Hamas’s leader in Gaza was “hiding in his bunker ... without contact with his associates”.

It comes as Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last night Israel will have “overall security responsibility” in Gaza indefinitely after its war against Hamas ends.

Again rejecting calls for a ceasefire, Netanyahu outlined Israel’s intentions to hold a tight grip on Gaza - home to over two million Palestinians - when the war ends.

For the past month it has reigned on both sides of the border separating Israel and the Gaza Strip.

Grief is in the tears of Israelis burying the 1,400 people — mostly civilians, including babies — slain by Hamas militants who stormed into Israel on Oct. 7.

It is in the anguished screams of Palestinians as the bodies of some of the more than 10,000 people reportedly killed by Israeli airstrikes — 40% of them children — are pulled from the wreckage of shattered homes.

Israel’s military has shared a video purportedly showing a fiery attack on a Hezbollah "terrorist target."

The Israeli Air Force wrote on X that the attack happened overnight, with footage depicting a fireball emerging following an airstrike.

Hezbollah, which is based in Lebanon, has been engaging in border skirmishes with Israeli forces as military activity is heating up against Hamas inside the Gaza Strip.

15,000 Gazans flee south in a single day as Israel cracks down on Hamas in Gaza city

The United Nations estimates that some 15,000 people fled south from northern Gaza on Tuesday as Israel continued its campaign against Hamas terrorists in Gaza city.

Footage circulating on social media appeared to show a convoy of thousands of Gazans waving white flags as they moved south, flanked by Israeli armored vehicles. The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says the Gazans used Israel's 4-hour window set up for evacuation.

Israeli forces are locked in combat with Hamas terrorists embedded in hundreds of miles of tunnels beneath Gaza City. Israeli officials said earlier this week that they believe many of the hostages Hamas took on Oct. 7 are being held under the city as well.

Those fleeing included children, older people and people with disabilities, and most walked with minimal belongings, the U.N. agency said. Some say they had to cross Israeli checkpoints, where they saw people being arrested, while others held their hands in the air and raised white flags while passing Israeli tanks.

Qatar reportedly brokering deal to release 10-15 hostages for pause in fighting

Qatar is reportedly negotiating a deal between Israel and Hamas to release 10-15 hostages in exchange for a short ceasefire, a source told AFP, according to the Times of Israel.

“Negotiations mediated by the Qataris in coordination with the US are ongoing to secure the release of 10-15 hostages in exchange for a one- to two-day ceasefire,” the source told AFP, who remains anonymous amid the talks.

Only four hostages have been released since Hamas' Oct. 7. terrorist attack on Israelis at a music festival.
