Top Hamas officials says protecting Gaza civilians not terrorist group's responsibility

Hamas official Moussa Abu Marzouk was asked why the terrorist group built miles of underground tunnels but not bomb shelters to protect the civilians of Gaza in an interview on Russia Today television network that aired October 27.

Marzouk said the tunnels were to protect the lives of Hamas terrorists, and that they used the underground labyrinth to conduct terrorist attacks.

“We built the tunnels because we have no other way of protecting ourselves from being killed in airstrikes," Marzouk said.

"We are fighting from inside the tunnels,” he added.

The terror head said that the protection of the Gaza civilian population was the responsibility of the UN and "the occupation" and not Hamas, which has ruled over the Gaza Strip for more than a decade.

That is just pitiful. I think that these unwitting people being used as they are is horrendous. But it seems to me that it happens in almost every war. The civilians become the military force or military protection.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken told the Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday there was no way to guarantee that some of the U.S. aid sent to Gaza would not be seized by Hamas terrorists, who are also the elected government of the territory.

“Can I promise you in this committee that there’ll be 100 percent delivery to the designated recipients? No, there will inevitably be some spillage,” Blinken said.

“We haven’t seen it to date, but I think we have to anticipate that,” he continued. “But the overwhelming, overwhelming majority of the assistance thus far is getting to people who need it. And we need more.”

He told the Senate:

    Before the conflict in Gaza, before Hamas’s aggression against Israel and its response, the U.N. and other agencies and other organizations providing relief were sending in between 500 and 800 trucks a day. Right now, we’re up to almost 60. We’re trying to get to 100 this week.

Blinken claimed the Biden administration has worked with Israel, Egypt, U.N. agencies, and “other actors” to ensure humanitarian aid would reach Palestinian civilians without falling into the hands of “people who don’t need it,” presumably including Hamas.

Americans leave Gaza for first time during Israel-Hamas war through Rafah border crossing into Egypt

Hundreds of foreign passport holders, including a number of Americans, and some wounded Palestinians who were trapped in Gaza started leaving the war-torn territory Wednesday as the Rafah border crossing to Egypt opened to them for the first time since the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel.

In Washington, U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller confirmed some American citizens have left Gaza but he wouldn't provide a specific number.

"There are a number of American citizens who have crossed through Rafah and are in Egypt today," Miller told reporters Wednesday afternoon.

At least five nongovernmental organization workers who have been confirmed as Americans were on a list released by Gaza's Hamas-controlled interior ministry as approved to cross on Wednesday, but it remains to be seen how many of the at least 400 American citizens the State Department says are stuck in Gaza will be able to cross in the coming days.

In Minnesota, President Biden said more people will be able to leave Gaza in the days ahead.

"We're working nonstop to get Americans out of Gaza as soon and as safely as possible," Mr. Biden said at an event about his economic agenda.

Utah resident Susan Beseiso, who has been trapped in Gaza, told CBS News on Wednesday that the State Department has sent her guidance that says that the U.S. government "has reliable information that limited departures from Gaza may begin this week. U.S. citizens and family members will be assigned specific departure dates to ensure an orderly crossing."

A total of 335 foreign passport holders have left the besieged Gaza Strip and entered Egypt through the Rafah border crossing on Wednesday, a Palestinian official said.

"So far, six buses carrying 335 passengers holding foreign passports have left for the Egyptian side," said Wael Abu Mohsen, a media official at the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, the only border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.

Abu Mohsen added that 76 ambulances carrying wounded people and their companions also left for Egypt.

It is the first group of foreigners and wounded people who were allowed to leave the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing since the outbreak of the bloody conflict between Israel and Hamas on October 7.

They need a CO2 pipeline. Fill the tunnels. It is heavier than air and will stay there, and even the rats will not survive that.

Arab nations that have normalized or are considering improving relations with Israel are coming under growing public pressure to cut those ties because of Israel’s war with Hamas.

Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets of Rabat and other Moroccan cities in support of the Palestinians. In Bahrain — a country that almost never allows protest — police stood by as hundreds of people marched last month, waving flags and gathering in front of the Israeli Embassy in Manama.

The demonstrations, which mirror protests across the Middle East, present an uncomfortable dilemma for governments that have enjoyed the benefits of closer military and economic ties with Israel in recent years.

In Egypt, which has had ties with Israel for decades, protesters rallied in cities and at universities, at times chanting “Death to Israel.” A parliamentary committee in Tunisia last week advanced a draft law that would criminalize normalization with Israel.

In Morocco and Bahrain, the public anger has an additional dimension; activists are demanding the reversal of agreements that formalize ties with Israel, underscoring discord between the governments and public opinion.

The U.S.-brokered Abraham Accords, aimed at winning broader recognition of Israel in the Arab world, paved the way for trade deals and military cooperation with Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates starting in 2020. Sen. Ted Cruz Files Hamas Sanctions Act

The act would block taxpayer money from going into the Gaza Strip.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz has introduced legislation that would impose sanctions on Hamas and others associated with the terrorist organization.

The Hamas Sanctions Act would prohibit U.S. tax dollars from going to the Gaza Strip as well as sanction every Hamas member and affiliate known to the U.S. within 15 days.

The act would also block Hamas’ ability to find safe havens abroad in countries like Qatar or Turkey. It would impose sanctions on hotels, landlords, banks, and similar businesses in allied countries that provide services to Hamas leaders.

Furthermore, it strengthens Cruz’s past legislation that imposed sanctions for the use of human shields, which passed into law in 2019. The act would renew the 2019 legislation that is set to expire. It also sanctions Hamas-affiliate Palestine Islamic Jihad.

“The United States should use every resource at our disposal, including our diplomatic power and sanctions leverage, for as long as it takes, to ensure that our Israeli allies are able to utterly eradicate Hamas,” said Cruz.

Biden Abruptly Calls For 'Pause' In Israel-Hamas War After Heckler Demands 'Cease-Fire'

President Joe Biden called for a “pause” in the Israel-Hamas war after being confronted by a heckler who was demanding a “cease-fire.”

While appearing at a fundraiser event in Minnesota on Wednesday, an audience member interrupted Biden’s speech saying that “as a rabbi” he needed the president to “call for a cease-fire” immediately. Biden responded to the heckler, saying that there needs to be a pause to allow prisoners to leave.

“I think we need a pause. A pause means give time to get the prisoners out,” Biden said.

“I’m the guy that convinced Bibi to call for a cease-fire to let the prisoners out. I’m the guy that talked to Sisi to convince him to open the door,” the president continued, talking about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby has maintained that the United States believes that a cease-fire in the conflict would only benefit Hamas, though Kirby did say the country supports a pause in the conflict to allow civilians to leave Gaza.
