Biden to speak with Netanyahu Sunday, 'stress the need' to distinguish terrorists from civilians

President Biden will speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday and will "stress the need for the IDF to make every possible effort to distinguish between terrorists and Palestinian civilians" during their ground operation in Gaza.

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on CNN Sunday that Biden would speak with Netanyahu later in the day — their first publicized conversation since Israel expanded its ground invasion — and reiterate the importance of distinguishing terrorists from civilians.

“There have been deaths of thousands of Palestinian civilians in this conflict and that is an absolute tragedy,” Sullivan said. “Those people did not deserve to die. Those people deserve to live lives of peace and safety and dignity."

Sullivan insisted that the US has been asking Israel "hard questions" about operations in Gaza — questions they would be asking itself if carrying out a counter-terror operation.

“We have had numerous conversations – from the prime minister and the president on down, and certainly among military leaders and their counterparts – about Israeli military objectives and about the steps that they have taken and intend to take to achieve those objectives,” he said.

“We’ve asked them hard questions, the same hard questions that we would ask ourselves if we were seeking to conduct an operation to take out a terrorist threat,” he went on. “We’ve pressed them on questions like objectives and matching means to objectives, about both tactical and strategic issues associated with this operation.”

Sullivan said Hamas was “making life extremely difficult for Israel” by using civilians as human shields and placing its rocket infrastructure within civilian neighborhoods.

“That creates an added burden for Israel. But it does not lessen Israel’s responsibility under international humanitarian law to distinguish between terrorists and civilians, and to protect the lives of innocent people,” he said.

White House says Israel should protect Gaza civilians despite Hamas using them as human shields

 Israel should take responsibility for protecting innocent civilians in Gaza even though Hamas is using them as human shields, Biden administration national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Sunday, as Israeli forces continue to bombard the Gaza Strip following the deadly terrorist attack more than three weeks ago.

Sullivan appeared on CNN's "State of the Union," saying the Israeli government should take every possible action to distinguish terrorists from civilians during its ongoing operations.

"Hamas is making life extremely difficult for Israel by taking civilians as human shields and putting their rocket infrastructure and terrorist infrastructure among civilians," Sullivan said. "That creates an added burden for Israel, but it does not lessen Israel’s responsibility under international humanitarian law to distinguish between terrorist and civilians and protect lives of innocent people."

Sullivan added: "And that is the overwhelming majority of the people in Gaza."

While Sullivan said President Biden will speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later Sunday about protecting Palestinian civilians in Gaza, he added that the U.S. has already been holding conversations behind closed doors about protecting civilians.

Hospital director says they have been told to evacuate quickly

The director of Al-Quds hospital in Gaza City, Bassam Mourad, has been speaking to the Reuters news agency - and he says he has received several warnings to evacuate the building.

“The first was through a phone call from the Palestinian Red Crescent which the Israeli army called to demand the evacuation of all patients and workers, as well as those residing in the hospital, to the south of Gaza.

"They mentioned that this area is going to be a military zone, that there will be clashes and the area will be dangerous and that we have to evacuate quickly,” he said.

He went on to say the number of displaced people residing in the hospital is somewhere between 12,000 to 14,000....

Woman stuck in Gaza says British government needs to take action

Lalah Ali Faten messaged me this morning to say that she'd finally heard from her daughter, Zaynab, who is trapped in Gaza and couldn't communicate with her while communication lines were out.

"She sounded okay and was asking me to not worry if she doesn't message as it's just the lack of internet," the mother from Manchester told me. "She's very brave."

She added that Zaynab has asked the British government to not delay getting British nationals out.

"They have no water left and the food supplies are minimal. The aid trucks that were allowed in were not enough for the population.

"The longer they are left there, the higher the likelihood they will not survive, therefore Zaynab is asking for her government to please get them out as soon as possible," Lalah told me.

"They (the British government) need to take action on behalf of their citizens immediately and facilitate the opening of the Rafah border so they can leave. This closure of the border is the only thing preventing them from leaving.

"If the British government fails to take action, they will be held accountable for the deaths of their citizens in Gaza.".......

Under Palestinian Authority law, every terrorist who is killed attacking Israel is defined as a “Martyr” whose family is immediately rewarded by the PA with a 6,000 shekels ($1,511) grant and a 1,400 ($353) per month allowance for life.

This means each family of the 1,500 dead Hamas terrorists who invaded Israel will receive 7,400 shekels for this first month. Families of those terrorists who were married and had children will receive even more. The PA will pay at least 11,100,000 shekels ($2,789,430) this month as a reward for participating in last week’s murders and atrocities against Israeli civilians.

Israeli troops raise flag 2 miles into Gaza for the first time in 18 years

Israeli troops appear to have advanced more than 2 miles into Gaza, raising the Jewish nation’s flag in the Palestinian territory for the first time in 18 years, according to a new video.

Images of Israeli Defense Forces soldiers waving their country’s flag inside Gaza were published on social media by the Jewish media outlet Israel Hayo on Saturday evening, ahead of Israel’s planned full-out invasion.



“Soldiers of the 52 Battalion of the 401 Brigade are waving the Israeli flag in the heart of Gaza by the beach,” a soldier narrates in the video. “We will not forgive nor forget, and we’ll not stop until the victory.”

It is believed to be the first time the Israeli flag has flown over an area of Gaza since 2005, when Jewish settlements in the Palestinian territory were dismantled and evacuated, the Jerusalem Post reports.

UN Security Council will hold emergency meeting as secretary-general repeats calls for a ceasefire

The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting Monday about Israel's ground invasion of Gaza, as UN Secretary-General António Guterres repeated calls for a ceasefire Sunday.

The council will be briefed by the under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator and an official from the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, according to a test of the request from the United Arab Emirates seen by CNN.

The emergency meeting comes after 120 countries voted for a UN resolution Friday that called for a "sustained humanitarian truce" in Gaza. The US was one of 14 countries that voted against the ceasefire, while 45 countries abstained from voting.

On Sunday, Guterres reiterated calls for a humanitarian ceasefire, telling reporters "We must join forces to end this nightmare for the people of Gaza, Israel and all those affected around the world."

After condemning Hamas' Oct. 7 attack, the UN chief repeated that under international humanitarian laws, parties to conflict still must protect civilians and provide them with food, water, medicine and other essentials.

“The number of civilians who have been killed and injured is totally unacceptable,” Guterres said.

Predicted that when the shooting starts in the Mediterranean Sea, Biden won't fire in anger.  He'll only fire if fired upon.

Afraid that Israel is on its own.

Police commanders complained that they did not have enough manpower to protect the prized equipment in several abandoned settlements. In some instances, police joined the looters, witnesses said.

“We need at least another 70 soldiers. This is just a joke,” said Taysir Haddad, one of 22 security guards assigned to Neve Dekalim, which was the largest Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip. “We’ve tried to stop as many people as we can, but they’re like locusts.”

“We have one law for everyone and no one is above the law. We are not going to tolerate chaos after today,” he said.
