74 percent of civilians killed Oct. 7 have been identified: police

Israeli police have identified 74 percent of the civilians killed in Hamas’ Oct. 7 invasion of southern Israel, the Times of Israel reported.
The bodies of 1,033 people have been found, of which 765 are identified, the outlet explained.
Of the identified victims, 668 have been transferred to families for burial.
“The 765 victims represent 74% of civilians (non-soldiers) killed in the fighting whose bodies have been brought for identification,” the police said in a formal statement.
“Thousands of police have been working shifts 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are taking part in the tough work of identification,” they added.
Some of the bodies are burned or otherwise so badly wounded that the identification process is extremely challenging, the Times of Israel said.
Around 300 soldiers killed in the ensuing war have also been identified by the IDF, the outlet reported.
The total death toll is said to be around 1,400.
