GOP senators introduce bill to redirect $100M in Gaza aid to Iron Dome

Ten Republican senators are set to introduce legislation that would divert the $100 million US aid package for Gaza toward replenishing Israel's Iron Dome, Haaretz reports.

This comes after Sen. Rick Scott's (R-Fla.) "Stop Taxpayer Funding of Hamas Act," which sought to block the Biden administration from delivering the aid until it certified with congressional committees that the funds would not go to Hamas, was blocked by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

The Biden administration has promised that the funds would be delivered to "trusted partners" in UN agencies and NGOs.

State Department spokesman says 32 Americans killed in Israel-Hamas war, 11 unaccounted for

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said Thursday that 32 Americans have been confirmed killed in the Israel-Hamas war.

Another 11 Americans are unaccounted for, Miller told reporters at a news conference.

"With respect to our work to secure the release of hostages, that work is ongoing," he added.

At least 4,800 people have been killed in the war on both sides, including at least 1,400 Israeli civilians and soldiers since Hamas launched a surprise attack on October 7. The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry claims at least 3,478 Palestinians have been killed and more than 10,950 wounded.

President Biden on Wednesday said that freeing Hamas hostages is his administration's top priority.

There's no higher priority than the release and safe return of all these hostages," Biden said in Israel. The president also pledged to ask Congress for an "unprecedented" support package for Israel's defense and said he would ask lawmakers for $100 million in humanitarian aid for Palestinian civilians in Gaza facing bombardment by Israeli forces.

State Department official in the bureau that oversees arms transfers resigned this week in protest of the Biden administration’s decision to continue sending weapons and ammunition to Israel as it lays siege to Gaza in its war with Hamas.

In his resignation letter, Josh Paul, who has been the director of congressional and public affairs for the State Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs for over 11 years, said the Biden administration’s “blind support for one side” was leading to policy decisions that were “shortsighted, destructive, unjust and contradictory to the very values we publicly espouse.”

“The response Israel is taking, and with it the American support both for that response and for the status quo of the occupation, will only lead to more and deeper suffering for both the Israeli and the Palestinian people,” he wrote, adding, “I fear we are repeating the same mistakes we have made these past decades, and I decline to be a part of it for longer.”

In an interview, Mr. Paul said that Israel’s cutting off of water, food, medical care and electricity to Gaza, a territory of two million people, should prompt protections in a number of longstanding federal laws intended to keep American weapons out of the hands of human rights violators. But those legal guardrails are failing, he said.

The Pentagon plans to send Israel tens of thousands of 155mm artillery shells that had been designated for Ukraine from U.S. emergency stocks several months ago, three Israeli officials with knowledge of the situation tell Axios.

Why it matters: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israeli ministry of defense told their U.S. counterparts they urgently need artillery shells to prepare for a ground invasion in Gaza — and a potential escalation of the war by Hezbollah along the Israel-Lebanon border, Israeli officials say.

U.S. officials have suggested that diverting the shells from Ukraine to Israel would have no immediate impact on Ukraine's ability to fight against Russian troops.

But it's unclear whether U.S. military supplies to Ukraine could be stretched if the Israel-Hamas war becomes a broader regional conflict.

US Navy intercepts missile fired near Yemen coast heading 'potentially towards targets in Israel'

The U.S. Navy intercepted several missiles fired near the coast of Yemen on Wednesday, two U.S. told Fox News.

It was unclear what the missiles were targeting.

One official said the missile were fired from Iranian backed Houthi militants.  Iran has provided the Houthi rebels with weapons amid a crippling war in Yemen.

Bring. Gen. Pat Ryder said during a press conference at the Pentagon on Thursday that the missiles were heading "potentially towards targets in Israel."

Unless Biden himself posted this photo - which we all know is not how this works - then the person responsible for doing so broke the law. Only the President & the original classification authority can declassify this & it would have had to go through layers of review if the legal process had been followed. The drug has been used by terrorists in the past. ISIS members were known to use the drug to suppress fear before carrying out attacks.

The stimulant has become highly popular in the Gaza Strip due to its low cost -- individual pills can go for as little as a dollar.

Captagon is known to be highly addictive and can also cause psychotic states.
