 Americans stuck in Gaza despite diplomatic deal to allow them to leave

American citizens said they were stranded in Gaza despite a tentative deal with Egypt, the US and Israel that allowed them to cross into Egypt Saturday, according to reports.

The diplomatic deal brokered among the three countries allowed more than 500 Americans stuck in the Gaza Strip to leave the war-ravaged enclave through the Rafah crossing until 10 a.m. ET but dozens of US citizens said they were still trapped.

As the deadline loomed, it still wasn’t clear whether Hamas would allow the movement of U.S. citizens or other foreigners to the Egyptian border crossing, the Wall Street Journal reported.

“This is absolutely nerve-racking,” said Lena Beseiso, 57, who was waiting on the Gaza side of the border with her husband, two of her daughters and a 10-year-old grandson, in a text message seen by the New York Times. “I’m so worried now more than ever before.”

It’s unclear why the border was closed, with some reports saying Egypt would not allow US passport holders to cross unless Israel and the US allowed truckloads of aid which are massed at Rafah to enter the Gaza Strip, according to social media posts.

U.S. State Department confirms 29 American citizens killed in Israel, 15 unaccounted for

The State Department confirmed on Saturday afternoon that 29 American citizens have been killed in Israel during the country's war with Hamas.

15 American citizens are also unaccounted for, including one lawful permanent resident.

"At this time, we can confirm the deaths of 29 U.S. citizens. We extend our deepest condolences to the victims and to the families of all those affected. We are not commenting further on the circumstances of the U.S. citizen deaths or the identities of the deceased at this time," a State Department spokesperson said.

"At this time, we are also aware of 15 U.S. citizens who are unaccounted-for, as well as one lawful permanent resident.  State Department personnel have been in contact with their families. The U.S. government is working around the clock to determine their whereabouts and is working with the Israeli government on every aspect of the hostage crisis, including sharing intelligence and deploying experts from across the United States government to advise the Israeli government on hostage recovery efforts. For privacy and security reasons, we have nothing further to share," the spokesperson added.

Casualties, kidnapped and more numbers since Hamas' attack on Israel

Since the surprise attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7, hundreds of civilians, including babies, the elderly, and soldiers have been killed, wounded or captured. Israel retaliated against Hamas by firing missiles into Gaza.

A terror attack by Hamas at a music festival in Israel claimed the lives of at least 260 concert-goers with many others kidnapped and injured. Those abducted — including American citizens — are still being held hostage in Gaza.

"We now know that American citizens are among those being held by Hamas," President Biden said in a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

Hamas feels abandoned by Iran. It appears plan was for Hizbollah to get involved but US threats against Iran stopped that. The original Hamas plan hasn’t worked out not because of Israeli attacks (which Hamas would have predicted) but because Iran effectively betrayed them

Israel inched closer to launching a full invasion of Gaza Saturday, massing troops on the enclave’s border and “preparing to expand” its response to last week’s brutal terror attack on Israeli civilians.

The Israeli Defense Force signaled the imminent attack on Hamas forces with a lengthy post on its website hours after the close of a 24-hour evacuation window it had set for Gaza residents on Friday.

“This is our hour to stand this test, and our job is to decide and win this war,” Col. Bnei Aharon, commander of the IDF’s 401st Brigade, said in the military’s post “We have the best people, we have the best general. We are a combination of the best forces in the world.”

The IDF’s web page boasted that Israel will conduct “an integrated and coordinated attack from the air, sea and land” — but did not indicate when the operation will begin.

A series of forward logistics centers have been established within Israel to keep the troops taking part in the “significant ground operation” supplied, the military said.

The EU's digital chief Thierry Breton warned Elon Musk on Tuesday that his platform X, formerly Twitter, is spreading "illegal content and disinformation", in a letter seen by AFP.

The letter said concerns had heightened after the Hamas attack against Israel, and demanded Musk respond to the complaint within 24 hours and contact "relevant law enforcement authorities".

As the European Union's commissioner for industry and the digital economy, Breton is charged with regulating internet giants that trade within the bloc, and can launch legal action.

"Following the terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas against Israel, we have indications that your platform is being used to disseminate illegal content and disinformation in the EU," Breton wrote.

Breton reminded Musk that EU law sets tough rules on moderating content, "especially when it comes to violent and terrorist content that appears to circulate on your platform".

He asked that X respond to his complaint within 24 hours and also get in touch with Europol, the EU police coordinating agency.

"We will include your answer in our assessment file on your compliance with the DSA," Breton said, referring to the new EU Digital Services Act, which regulates online platforms.

 Chilling final texts of Israeli American family murdered by Hamas revealed: ‘They’re here’

An Israeli American family of six killed by Hamas militants on Oct. 7 texted relatives they had made it to safety – only to then send heartrending messages in their final minutes as they were murdered in their home.

“They’re here. They’re burning us. We’re suffocating,” Yonatan (Johnny) Kedem Siman Tov texted his sister Ranae Butler, who lives in Israel, The Independent reported.

Tov, his wife Tamar Kedem-Siman Tov, 35, and their three children — 6-year-old twin girls Shahar and Arbel and 4-year-old son Omer — as well as his mother, Carol Siman Tov, 70, were all killed at the family’s home in Nir Oz, a kibbutz on the outskirts of Gaza.

The family fled to “safe rooms” after Hamas militants fired a barrage of rockets. Once inside, they texted family and friends they were safe.

“Hi guys, we got into the shelter in our house, we are all going OK,” Tamar texted a loved one.

But an hour later, the messages stopped. Hamas militants had broken into their home and gunned them down in their safe room.


Yonatan (Johnny) Kedem Siman Tov, his wife Tamar Kedem-Siman Tov, 35, and their three children were all killed in the attacks.

“Our hearts are shattered,” a family friend, Yishai Lacob, posted on Facebook, according to The Sun.

“An entire family was killed by evil murderers who shot the children and parents simply because they were Jewish. And this is just one story, among so many. It’s unbearable.”
