It is a terrorist attack. The objective of the attack is not the immediate acquisition of real estate, it is to terrorize the populace and keep people from sleeping at night. I think it did that, despite galvanizing the national will to make sure it does not happen again.

Their goal was to breech the perimeter and then to set up footholds in Israel for further incursions. They actually wanted not only to slaughter the people on the adjacent farms, but to take and hold them. That is why when the IDF arrived, they had to battle terrorists to retake the properties.

It turned out to be nothing but a 'terrorist raid', But that was not the plan. The plan was a real actual on-the-ground invasion. They intended to establish defendable bases of operations as they continued to battle North. In that sense, the mission was a complete failure.

Also, Hamas has galvanized countries worldwide as to the dangers of Islam with this. Hamas provided a demonstration in real life of how depraved and evil Islam can be. Hamas crossed the line and there is no going back ever. They shattered the long enduring propaganda point that Hamas are just long suffering persecuted farmers. They exposed themselves in an undeniable way, and their fundraising will never recover.

Hamas LOST much, much more than they gained by far. It was a mistake, and now Israel is going to wipe Gaza/Hamas off the map to ensure it never happens again.

The lawsuit asserts the Biden administration sent nearly half a billion in taxpayer dollars to the Palestinian Authority.

A federal judge in Texas ordered the commencement of the discovery phase of a lawsuit accusing the Biden administration of knowingly providing funds to benefit Palestinian terrorist attacks.

America First Legal (AFL) filed the lawsuit on behalf of U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R–TX) and Stuart and Robbi Force, parents of West Point graduate Taylor Force—who was murdered by a Palestinian terrorist in Tel Aviv and is the impetus for the Taylor Force Act.

The lawsuit claims President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken resumed payments to the Palestinian Authority (PA), which Former President Donald Trump ended in order to comply with the Taylor Force Act.

Signed into law in 2017, the Taylor Force Act is a federal law prohibiting the U.S. government from providing the Palestinian Authority with American taxpayer funds until they take credible steps to end acts of violence, stop payments for acts of terrorism, publicly condemn the acts of violence, and revoke the laws requiring payments to known terrorists.

According to the lawsuit, the Biden administration has sent nearly half a billion in taxpayer dollars to the PA, despite admitting that the PA still operates its “Pay to Slay” program.

U.S. Navy Brings Massive Military Power to the Gaza Area of Operations

Navy’s newest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), is on station off the coast of Gaza with its entire Carrier Strike Group, including four strike-fighter aircraft squadrons, a guided missile cruiser, and four guided missile destroyers, among other military assets

The Big Picture

Anyway, to provide this update of the current scene, I start from the top down, with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s statement concerning Hamas’ attacks on Israel, because it reveals the force strategy big picture. From the October 8 DOD press release:

    Statement From Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III on U.S. Force Posture Changes in the Middle East:

        My thoughts continue to be with the people of Israel and the many families who have lost loved ones as a result of the abhorrent terrorist attack by Hamas. Today, in response to this Hamas attack on Israel, and following detailed discussions with President Biden, I have directed several steps to strengthen Department of Defense posture in the region to bolster regional deterrence efforts.

I have directed the movement of the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group to the Eastern Mediterranean. This includes the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60), as well as the Arleigh-Burke-class guided missile destroyers USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116), USS Ramage (DDG 61), USS Carney (DDG 64), and USS Roosevelt (DDG 80). We have also taken steps to augment U.S. Air Force F-35, F-15, F-16, and A-10 fighter aircraft squadrons in the region. The U.S. maintains ready forces globally to further reinforce this deterrence posture if required.

In addition, the United States government will be rapidly providing the Israel Defense Forces with additional equipment and resources, including munitions. The first security assistance will begin moving today and arriving in the coming days.

Strengthening our joint force posture, in addition to the materiel support that we will rapidly provide to Israel, underscores the United States’ ironclad support for the Israel Defense Forces and the Israeli people. My team and I will continue to be in close contact with our Israeli counterparts to ensure they have what they need to protect their citizens and defend themselves against these heinous terrorist attacks.

Tactically, however, the strength of the aircraft carrier is not its launching system nor its own self-defense weapons systems, of which there are several, but the carrier’s air wing.

Carrier Air Wing Eight (CVW-8)

Carrier Air Wing Eight consists of four squadrons of F-18 Super Hornet fighter-attack aircraft, which are capable of air-to-air combat (fighter) missions and air-to-ground attack (bomber) missions. The four squadrons of tactical aircraft in Carrier Air Wing 8 are the “Ragin’ Bulls” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 37, the “Blacklions” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 213, the “Golden Warriors” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 87, and the “Tomcatters” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 31. The Air Wing also has other aircraft, including early warning (i.e. Navy AWACS) aircraft, dedicated electronic warfare aircraft (jammers), and multi-mission capable helicopters.

Conclusion

There is now a great deal of U.S. combat power in the vicinity of Gaza. My own opinion is that the Biden Administration should be doing everything it can to extract the U.S. hostages from Gaza, and the most difficult part (again, totally my opinion) will probably be getting actionable intelligence on where the U.S. hostages are located and who and what is defending against their rescue. We have the military means to extract them; the key is do we have the intelligence to support such a mission, and do we have the will to employ U.S. forces in Gaza in what would likely be a very risky mission, perhaps especially for the hostages themselves.

I also think that the administration should be doing everything it can to prevent people who have participated in the pro-Hamas love-fests around the U.S. from replicating what Hamas did in Israel here at home.

Report: Hamas Prevents Civilians from Evacuating Northern Gaza

The Palestinian Hamas terror group is reportedly preventing civilians from leaving the northern Gaza Strip, after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) warned residents Friday morning to flee south ahead of an anticipated ground invasion.

As Breitbart News reported, the IDF issued its warning for all residents north of the Wadi Gaza river. It gave residents 24 hours to flee, though it later acknowledged that an evacuation could take days.

However, Hamas discouraged people from leaving.

The Times of Israel reports:

    A Gazan resident speaking to The Times of Israel on condition of anonymity confirms that Hamas is preventing residents of the north of the strip from evacuating to the south, following an evacuation order issued by the IDF for Friday morning.

    “When they find people going to their cars, they force them to go back,” the Gazan man says.

The Palestinian Authority has also criticized the evacuation order, saying it would amount to giving up the land, though Israel has promised residents can return after Hamas is gone. Egypt, which controls the only border crossing other than those into Israel, has refused to open it to Palestinian refugees, urging them to stay.

The United Nations also criticized the Israeli evacuation order, saying that it would be impossible to carry out. Israel denounced the United Nations for ignoring Hamas’s military buildup and for failing to condemn the terror attack on Saturday that has killed 1,300 Israelis thus far. Over 3,000 were wounded, and over 100 were taken hostage.

That needs to be publicized far and wide.  Not only is Hamas holding captured Israelis hostage, they are now holding the entire civilian population of Gaza hostage as well.

Report: Full List of Foreigners Murdered, Abducted or Missing in Hamas Terrorist Attack

Hundreds of foreigners were murdered, wounded or taken hostage Saturday in Hamas’s horrific terrorist attack on Israel that has also left many missing in the days since.

An electronic music festival in the southern Israeli desert, at which scores of revellers were killed, was the central initial target of Hamas before they spread to other areas moving behind rocket attacks from the West Bank fired indiscriminately into the Jewish state.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) has compiled the following list of those from outside Israel believed to number amongst the fatalities as detailed Friday.
United States: 27 dead, others abducted, missing

At least 27 US citizens have been killed, U.S. authorities said.

An unspecified number of Americans are believed to have been abducted.

“We now know that American citizens are among those being held by Hamas,” President Joe Biden said on Tuesday.

Thailand: 21 dead, 16 hostages –

Twenty-one Thais have been killed, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said on Thursday.

The foreign ministry said another 13 had been wounded, and 16 are thought to have been abducted.

There are approximately 30,000 Thais in Israel, most working in the agricultural sector, according to government figures.
France: 13 dead, 17 missing

Thirteen French nationals have died according to French President Emmanuel Macron.

Seventeen are missing, according to the latest foreign ministry figures, a number of whom are children according to Macron.

Hezbollah says calls for it not to intervene in war 'will have no effect'

BEIRUT, Oct 13 (Reuters) - Hezbollah deputy chief Naim Qassem said on Friday that the group would not be swayed by calls for it to stay on the sidelines of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, saying the party was "fully ready" to contribute to the fighting.

"The behind-the-scenes calls with us by great powers, Arab countries, envoys of the United Nations, directly and indirectly telling us not to interfere will have no effect," he told supporters gathered in the southern Beirut suburb for a rally.

"Hezbollah knows its duties perfectly well. We are prepared and ready, fully ready," Qassem said.

The group has already clashed with Israel across the Lebanese border multiple times in the past week in the deadliest confrontations since they fought a month-long war in 2006.

Less than a month before Hamas fighters blew through Israel’s high-tech “Iron Wall” and launched an attack that would leave more than 1,200 Israelis dead, they practiced in a very public dress rehearsal.

A slickly produced two-minute propaganda video posted to social media by Hamas on Sept. 12 shows fighters using explosives to blast through a replica of the border gate, sweep in on pickup trucks and then move building by building through a full-scale reconstruction of an Israeli town, firing automatic weapons at human-silhouetted paper targets.

The Islamic terror group’s live-fire exercise dubbed operation “Strong Pillar” also had terrorists in body armor and combat fatigues carrying out operations that included the destruction of mock-ups of the wall’s concrete towers and a communications antenna, just as they would do for real in the deadly attack last Saturday.

While Israel’s highly regarded security and intelligence services were clearly caught flatfooted by Hamas’ ability to breach its Gaza defenses, the group appears to have hidden its extensive preparations for the deadly assault in plain sight.

“There clearly were warnings and indications that should have been picked up,” said Bradley Bowman, a former US Army officer who is now senior director of the Center on Military and Political Power at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a Washington research institute. “Or maybe they were picked up, but they didn’t spark necessary preparations to prevent these horrific terrorist acts from happening.”
