Reports: Longtime Hamas Ally Erdogan Negotiating for Jihadists’ Hostages

Multiple Turkish news outlets reported on Wednesday that Islamist Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has denied that Hamas is a terrorist organization and met with its leadership as recently as July, is attempting to negotiate the liberation of hostages the jihadists took during an ongoing episode of mass murder of civilians in Israel that began on Saturday.

Erdogan has fielded calls with a large number of fellow world leaders – from neighbors such as Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Jordanian King Abdullah II to his counterparts in Germany and Algeria – in the past four days regarding the situation in Israel, where Hamas terrorists launched a brutal assault on Saturday, killing over 1,300 people, most of them civilians. Erdogan’s government has not plainly condemned Hamas for the attack, instead issuing vague demands for “dialogue” while accusing the government of Israel of acting like a terrorist organization.

Hamas terrorists launched the “al-Aqsa flood,” their indiscriminate attack on civilians in residential communities, on Saturday, the Jewish holiday of Shemini Atzeret, the final day of the annual High Holy Day cycle. The jihadists opened fire on crowds at a music festival and butchered families in door-to-door assaults; evidence suggests they also burned infants alive. Some dead babies were found without their heads.

The businessman father of an Israeli American woman who was murdered alongside her boyfriend by Hamas terrorists at a music festival tracked her phone and Apple Watch to find the bullet-riddled car where his daughter met her end while trying to flee to safety.

Eyal Waldman, the founder of Mellanox, a multinational supplier of computer network products, told CNN he initially hoped that his 24-year-old daughter, Danielle Waldman, had been taken captive by the terrorists during the deadly attack on the Nova Festival in southern Israeli on Saturday.

But on Wednesday, just hours before the interview, he learned that both Danielle and Noam Shai, her boyfriend of six years, were among some 260 people who were slaughtered in cold blood by the terrorists.

Tracking features on Danielle’s phone and Apple Watch eventually led her father and a friend to the car where she was killed by multiple attackers.

Is it ethical to refuse medical treatment to Hamas terrorists seeking care in Israeli hospitals, even though healthcare professionals have a moral duty to refrain from discrimination based on non-clinical factors?

That depends  on the nature of the wounds and which  military the wounded is from.

If the wounded is one of the  enemy  that attacked you,the SOB should just be pushed into  a corner to suffer until he dies.

If the wounded is one of your or your allies soldiers,he should be given the best treatment possible.

Just going to point out that Kirby's statement talks about combat operations in Israel.  Doesn't say anything about the Gaza Strip.

I wouldn't expect us to do any large-scale combat ops there, but I would expect SpecOps to try to rescue any Americans located if it is feasible

That could get a bit sticky if not coordinated with the Israelis, otherwise an air strike might get our guys. I would imagine Israel wants to maintain control and that would make OPSEC more feasible. The fewer who know, the less chance something gets out.

US A-10s arrive in Middle East after terrorist attacks in Israel

U.S. Central Command announced the arrival of A-10 Thunderbolt IIs in the Middle East region Thursday as a show of U.S. military strength and support for Israel.

“The 354th Fighter Squadron and their A-10 Thunderbolt IIs arrived in the region to support the U.S.’s increased posture,” U.S. Central Command stated on X, formerly Twitter. “These aircraft are in addition to the A-10s from the 75th Fighter Squadron already in the region.”

The A-10 Thunderbolt IIs are in addition to the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group that arrived in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea on Tuesday. A press release by CENTCOM explained that the aircraft carrier and strike group are meant to “deter any actor seeking to escalate the situation or widen this war.”

CENTCOM noted that the U.S. military forces in the region included the USS Gerald R. Ford with eight attacks and support aircraft squadrons, the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Thomas Hudner, USS Carney, USS Ramage, USS Roosevelt, and the Ticonderoga class guided missile cruiser USS Normandy.

 I would say that insistence on scrapping the workhorse and relatively inexpensive A-10s is senseless but I'm not an Air Force procurement official.
