Nobody here ever said that being in a support role was equivalent to being in the infantry. It isn't.

At the same time, being in a support role in a foreign country during wartime, where irregular warfare is everywhere and the front lines are almost non-existent is not the same as being a civilian sitting at home.

And if you can't understand the difference between those two things, that's on you.

Conservatives honor Defense and Foreign Policy Conservatives by upholding their immovable principles.

One of those principles, the primary one, is to pick someone who is oath-bound, that has served... because such as these understand military life and duty.

That the pick has served is generally enough - service is measured the same. Doesn't matter past that.
But there is a feeling of better acceptance of a candidate who served in-theater... Bush's service was knocked for being Air Guard, sitting home in Texas instead of being engaged in-theater.

So In-theater is better than at home... and combat probably better, more revered, than 'merely' in theater.

Still it is more than enough, meeting the service requirement with in-theater bells and whistles to boot, and accolades, JAG or not, looking out particularly for SF.

Tumpy has none of that... And that's why it is denigrated. And I think it shameful.

First of all,I do not believe there WAS a draft when DeSanctimonious signed up,so HOW was he dodging the draft?

What I DO believe is DeSanctimonious joined the Navy in order to have a military background to brag about for political purposes,and because the Navy is,with  the exception of the SEALS,NOT involved in ground  combat. That way he could legitimately claim to be a military veteran without having to put his butt on the line in combat.

Not that he would have ever been in combat if he had enlisted in the USMC instead of the Navy because Lawyers don't get involved in actual combat.

AND....,I  am not even sure the USMC even has Lawyers because the Navy has them,and the USMC comes under the US Navy.

BTW,there is nothing shameful about being a military lawyer. The shame comes from trying to imply you were in combat and in having photos of you  taken in combat gear.

Assuming of course that there is such a thing as shaming a lawyer.

DeSantis was active duty until 2010, and remained in the Naval Reserve until 2019 when he retired as a Lt. Commander.  What rank did Donald Trump reach when he retired from the military?

I've never heard it either.  Everyone knows the grunts bear the biggest burden, but I've never heard a grunt mock other MOS's as no better than draft dodgers.  At least not in the Marines.
