Mark Milley: A 'Handful of Drag Queen Shows' on Military Bases Doesn't Mean Military 'Went Woke'

"A handful of drag queen shows" on military bases doesn't mean that the military "went woke," Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. Mark Milley said Wednesday.

In a wide-ranging interview with the Washington Post, Milley said charges that the military is pushing "wokeness" and critical race theory are "overstated."

"I'll use drag queen shows as an example," Milley said. "How many times it happened? It happened a few. That's true. Probably shouldn't happen. But it did. But to say that … the entire military went woke because a handful of drag queen shows that shouldn't happen to begin with I think is an overstatement."

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R., Fla.) in June flagged six drag shows at military bases, the Washington Free Beacon reported. One at a Nevada Air Force base, which the Pentagon canceled following a letter from Gaetz, was billed as "family-friendly" and had no minimum age requirement.

In another case, the Navy appointed a "nonbinary" drag queen to be a "digital ambassador" tasked with attracting "younger Americans amid recruitment shortages," the Free Beacon reported.

Those shortages have amounted to a "once-in-a-generation military recruitment crisis," retired Army captain Jeremy Hunt told Congress in March. Hunt and other experts pointed to the military's focus on "woke" initiatives, including Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training, as the main reason for the crisis.

Republicans have strongly criticized that focus, backing bills to ban the drag shows and other "woke" initiatives.

The Army last year put its soldiers through "training on gender pronouns and coaching officers on when to offer soldiers gender transition surgery," according to documents obtained by the Free Beacon. The Navy, meanwhile, trained sailors on "proper gender pronouns" in a video "modeled after a children's show."

Public confidence in the military has plunged to its lowest point in over two decades, polling found last month. .............

Call it "Woke" or a "Ham-on-Rye Sandwich", the shows should never have happened, and the brasshats who allowed it should be 'splainin' it to Congress.
I am not and never have been a leftist.

If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

It's not just the drag shows -- it's active transgenders in the military getting special treatment.  It's all the DEI crap that through the former military standard of "colorblindness" out the window.  Neither of those things are made up or just the product of conservative conspiracy theorists.  And then of course, there's Milley's own statement that "I want to understand white rage".

He also mentions Covid, but only the aspect of it that prevented recruiters from going into schools.  What he completely ignores is the impact of the mandate, and booting people out of the service, on the those who might otherwise consider military service.  Because they're all wondering about the next skeevy medical mandate that might come down.

Fact:  the entire total of all the f***ing nonsense that has transpired has made the US military a  laughing stock.  This in fact weakens the perception of the US throughout the world.  Again, let me repeat, laughing stock.  Does anyone believe for a nanosecond that Chinese or Russian militaries allow any of this horsesh*t?  Hell no!!!

Pathetic!  And Milley from my view with his revelation that he was going to inform China about X, Y, and Z, and ignore the POTUS direction was treason, and should have resulted with his public dispatch.

We have become idiots with our refusal to dispatch those that betray our country in public.  It serves a purpose.  Performing capital punishment behind closed doors and a handful of witnesses serves no one, and certainly doesn't deter a damn thing.

Milley is a confessed traitor, and not so much as an inquiry has been made to establish his treason.  The whole of Washington from my view are traitors.

@Kamaji

MILEY should have never "happened"

Someone with the ability to do so needs to track down who her political and military "rabbi's" were,and see to it that their pensions are pulled for dereliction of duty/failure to perform.

The political creatures that backed this crap need to be publicly identified and voted out of office.

Milley bragged in his book that he had established what he called "backchannels" to senior level officials in the CCP. And that in the event that Trump did or planned to do anything aggressive toward China, Milley declared that he would call his contacts and warn them in advance. That is the very definition of treason. His insane hatred for Trump caused him to side with China over America.

Also, in espionage intelligence terms, 'backchannels' could mean that Chinese operatives supplied Milley with a secure phone which has direct access to top levels of the CCP. That would make Milley a certified 'spy' in any country and in any definition of the word.

Why this all just *poof* disappeared is well beyond absurd.

That's where you're wrong.

Sure, Trump is a a lazy s.o.b., so he almost certainly didn't put any effort into learning about the military before he took office, nor take the time to get to know any senior officers before taking office.

But by the time Trump appointed Milley to be Chairman, he'd been President for over two years, and been in tons of meetings with Milley (who was Army Chief of Staff when Trump promoted him to Chairman) and the other Joint Chiefs.

So Trump did know Milley and the other four stars, and if he paid the least attention to his role as Commander in Chief, would have known a hell of a lot more about the military than he did when he took office.

He knew - or at least thought he knew - enough about the military and the job of Chairman to pick his own guy.  So he overruled the recommendation of the current chair, and the SecDef, and chose Milley.

100% completely on him.

Yes, it does.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

Why would he? He was a corporate CEO,and CEO's have flunkies they rely  on under them to make personnel decisions for them.

Quote
But by the time Trump appointed Milley to be Chairman, he'd been President for over two years, and been in tons of meetings with Milley (who was Army Chief of Staff when Trump promoted him to Chairman) and the other Joint Chiefs.

Why WOULDN'T an outsider to that system NOT trust someone that very same system had already appointed to the Chief of Staff to the US Army?
So Trump did know Milley and the other four stars, and if he paid the least attention to his role as Commander in Chief, would have known a hell of a lot more about the military than he did when he took office.

He knew - or at least thought he knew - enough about the military and the job of Chairman to pick his own guy.

The "guy" was already picked,and picked by his peers. Or so it must have seemed,anyhow. I was just career enlisted swine,but even I am shocked that someone like Miss Miley could even be IN the army,never mind hold one of the top slots.

I STILL want several "someones" court-martialed over that one,and I still want to see them lose their pensions over that.

Quote
So he overruled the recommendation of the current chair, and the SecDef, and chose Milley.

So,the "new guy in town" when it came to the US Military wanted to nominate his OWN choice,someone who would "owe" him,instead of the pick of the establishment,who didn't owe him diddly-squat,and you  want to find fault with him over that? Who DOESN'T want a staff that are supposed to be loyal to them because they were appointed to those positions?

Look at this post. It’s very revealing.

But if you’ve all noticed, he can’t name who the individual was who gave Donald Trump the advice to pick Miley. It’s just something he made up.

Give all the facts you want to this particular poster and it will not matter.

But history is what it is. And anybody can make a mistake. But Miley is one of many. It’s a pattern with Donald Trump. Everybody who he chose has been bad, except the person who did the actual picking. Donald Trump looks for unwavering loyalty, not ability.

And it’s a pattern that’s guaranteed to continue should he get another term

@LMAO

You wouldn't know a fact if it bit you on your ass.

Trump,like all CEO's "new to a particular "game"" want to promote their own guy to "lead the game" so they have loyalty to them instead of the established powers,who may or may not be wanting the new CEO to fail so THEY can take the job.

Trump got lousy advise on who to pick.

( @sneakypete   Just a reminder -- and I know this is off topic, but you are supposed to be taking it easy!  That includes tryig to remain calm and not getting worked up about things.  Please -- take time to truly relax.  Just for a while. I want you to get better.)

We all know the "leader" type that takes credit for everything that goes right and takes no responsibility for anything that goes wrong.

That isn't leadership at all.

   We can all surmise that Trump made the appointment of Milley based solely on his Senior Staff Advisors; either Ivanka, Don Jr., Eric or Kushner, who incidentally all love the perverted gay movement.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

@roamer_1

Makes more sense than the "Ah hates him cuasen he bees rich!" "reasons" YOUR crowd hates him.

@sneakypete

Bullshit.
My dislike of the man is seldom an issue (except when discussing character, for example). What I tend to criticize is the outright damage he has done to Conservatism... all of it giant, and all of it on the record.

@Kamaji

MILEY should have never "happened"

Someone with the ability to do so needs to track down who her political and military "rabbi's" were,and see to it that their pensions are pulled for dereliction of duty/failure to perform.

The political creatures that backed this crap need to be publicly identified and voted out of office.
Ummm, I don't know about Milly's military history, but if you're looking for the one responsible for his current position? You already got your wish...Trump was voted out of office. :shrug:
