Trump swipes at ‘selfish’ New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu on his turf

By Josh Christenson
August 8, 2023

Former President Donald Trump took aim Tuesday at another popular Republican governor during a political rally in New Hampshire on Tuesday, calling Chris Sununu a “selfish, selfish guy” who “never helped” him.

Trump slammed Sununu after a rally attendee referred to the governor as “corrupt” for not having built a full-service Veterans Affairs hospital in the Granite State.

“No longer will New Hampshire be the only state in America without a full-service VA facility. You’ll have it, and you’ll have it done quickly,” the 77-year-old said in a speech announcing his Veterans for Trump coalition in Windham, near the Massachusetts border.

“You’re going to have a brand new VA hospital,” Trump said. “Beautiful. State of the art. Top of the line. The only state that doesn’t have one.”

“Because of our corrupt governor,” an audience member shouted.

“I was waiting for that,” Trump responded with a chuckle. “You know, I was going to say that, but then I thought I’d be politically correct.”

Apparently, neither Trump nor his MAGA-inspired shoutout from the audience understand that the VA is a federal operation over which the governor of a state has zero control or authority.

Which begs the question of why Trump didn't have a hospital built during his first 4-year term.

And because he didn’t feel like explaining this stuff to Trump fanatics, he passed on a senate bid.

I've voted for the GOP nominee in every presidential election since I turned 18.  Win or lose, I've always felt a good sense of satisfaction after casting my vote.

If Trump is the GOP nominee, I expect to have the same sense of satisfaction coming out of the voting booth having left the selection for President blank.  May even feel a little better than usual.

Obviously, the way to win the Presidency is by attacking popular governors of your own party in states you can't afford to lose.

Why has no one else thought of that?

I have been that way for years. The point of no return was actually Bush II Election II... But came to fruition thereafter. I did not vote for McCain. I did not vote for Romney, and I did not vote for Tumpy.

And I sleep just fine.

Give me people to vote *FOR* and I can come back. I would have voted for Cruz, gladly. I would vote for DeSantis in a NY minute.

But I absolutely refuse to vote for more of our own destruction from the right.

Apparently, he only needs the people who show up to his rallies and adore him.

Don't worry, though. That should be good enough. Everyone else is a loser.

Just ask him.

She’s a top-notch governor. That was a stupid move on his part.

Right. That's is why I say he's become unhinged. He is so narcissistic that he thinks he needs no help or support from anyone.

Usually, I figure that even a pretty poor Republican will prevent things from getting worse - or at least slow the rate of decline - buying us some time until someone better comes along.  And the Supreme Court has always been huge.

But I honestly can't look at Trump and say that for all his flaws, we'd still be better off in 2029 if we'd elected him instead of Biden.  I think he may just be all that is needed to alienate permanently enough voters to destroy any remnant of conservative opposition in 2029.

I voted third party instead of McCain.  I regret voting for Romney. I will not and cannot vote for another candidate who is not conservative and whom I don't believe will move this country forward.

I am absolutely fed up.  If need be I will not vote for president and vote down ballot or I will abstain from voting altogether. I never ever that I would do so, but I can no longer play their game.

Well, I have not been a Republican since 07, precisely to release me from the obligation. Republicans, even in the rank and file, have abused their relationship with Conservatism, and have broken the agreement made in Reagan. Hence, with that agreement broken, all obligations have ceased... To include remaining in the party. And with it, any obligation toward Republicans and their candidates.

I voted for Jimmah in 76. Ron in 80. Took a time out in The 80's from voting as the years were a sex and cocaine blurr.   Ross in 92.   I think I voted for the magic negro Obama one time because I wanted to sleep with a super hot liberal.  After an above average blow job (she didn't descale my bone) I was told that If I didn't vote for the articulate, good looking black guy i was a rascist.

Wait, what was the question again?

I'm still a Republican, but I figure my obligation to vote for a particular GOP nominee extends only so far as that nominee accepted a reciprocal obligation to support whomever the nominee was.  Trump didn't do that in 2016, he isn't doing it this year, and many of his supporters have said they won't either.

So if they don't have any loyalty to the party, I have zero for them.

Tumpy ginning up his character assassination machine would be all I need to know. Even setting aside his horrendous record, his lack of character - the lack of class needed to destroy your opponent with lies, would never pass my muster.

I have no need for any typical Republican Moderate Neocon, and will give them no power - they need torn down, and kept far away from levers of power.

And just like that, without DeSantis, there is nothing there to vote *FOR*.

No doubt I WILL be voting for Governor Ganforte and Congressman Zinke, Not sure yet if I will give Sen Daines my vote. And I will vote against Sen Testercle providing a Conservative stands against him. And I will be active in state and regional politics to some small degree.

So I will vote for sure.

But less DeSantis, I can assure you the top of the ticket will be Libertarian or Constitution Party, or left blank.
