100% true.  Businesses stayed closed for as long as they did precisely because the Trump administration was willing to hand out free money.

Trump was more worried about short-term politics and getting reelected than he was about the long-term future of the country.

Yes Trump was more worried about getting re-elected and politics and that was evident when he walked across to St. Johns which had been vandalized, with Bible in hand and promised to quell the violence that was going on after the Floyd incident.  He not only promised at that time but promised again that he would put an end to the violence.  He obviously didn't do it. The rioters called his bluff.  The riots, violence and disrespect for our LEO continues on to this day from his lack of action.at that time.

I brought that up in here at the time and some stated that him taking action (declaring the Insurrection Act) could hurt his re-election chances. IOW his re-election was more important than tending to the destruction of our Republic.  Here we sit.

Another reason why I cannot and will not vote for him again.

In the short term, yes... but we have been massively overspending since Bush's 'Too Big to Fail', which by today's standards was but a pittance... And we couldn't handle that...

The last four months of Bush's Presidency destroyed the legacy of the other 92.  And it was a pittance by today's standards.  Only $350 billion of new money (which was actually paid back).  But after that, we have been on a roller coaster of new money, none of which will ever be paid back.  Ever.  Devaluation of the currency is here to stay.  Until we hit a wall like the Germans did in 1930.

Sure looks that way. It could be done, with austerity across decades... But the will to do it seems lacking. And folks keep voting for it.

There hasn't been an actual federal budget passed for how long??? It has all been continuing resolutions since... That's where the train completely left the rails... It mathematically can't continue - there's going to be hell to pay.

The only place I heard some waffling was about abortion. Apparently, he couldn't bring himself to say it was a state's rights issue and not a federal one unequivocally.

Other than that, I thought he did extremely well.

When it came to the issue of spending, he didn’t mention Trump by name, but he was right on the cause.  When they were shutting down businesses and sending all that money out due to Covid, a few of my colleagues were questioning where that money was coming from. I told them not to worry as it will be “paid back” through Inflation.

This is classic TEA Party. And a sharp contrast to Trump’s expensive plans that we just cannot afford.

This could peel away some that support Trump now,but understand that we cannot continue this fiscal path.  And this was refreshingly different than a former president who once claimed that we could never default because we can just print our money not that many years ago.

Next, Trump needs to be confronted on his tariffs and trade war, especially how they negatively impacted farmers

Putting in a policy in place that had a negative impact on farmers and then bragging about giving them money to bail them out because of those policies it’s not something that I would want to run on.

True, but that doesn't absolve Trump from the blame he deserves for what happened in his watch.

The truth is that our national response to COVID may have done more to harm the core fabric of this country than anything else since the beginning of the new millennium, and it happened under Trump.

Alright. I broke my own rule and watched... Partly because Megyn Kelly. I favor her because she does her job. She's a bulldog. So I knew it would be substantive. She'll throw him a softball or two, so it's fair, but she's gonna chew on him, and not let him up.

This interview was brilliant. Anyone who doesn't see DeSantis as a serious contender has not heard him. He's all business. And he's right. And he won't.back.down. That boy has a big stick and he WILL use it.

And finally, fiscal issues. Federalism. Milton Friedman. This guy is TEA, right down the line.

And I WILL vote for him. This is what we need. The real deal.
