Trump blasts documents case as ‘witch hunt’ while en route to federal hearing

Donald Trump blasted the probe into his treatment of top secret documents as a “witch hunt” while en route to a federal Miami courthouse for his arraignment this afternoon.

“ON MY WAY TO COURTHOUSE. WITCH HUNT!!! MAGA,” the former president wrote on Truth Social shortly before 2 p.m..

Trump, 76, is expected to plead not guilty to 37 charges related to his alleged withholding of classified material after he left the White House in Jan. 2021.

His aide, Walt Nauta, is also charged in the extensive case. Nauta traveled to Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. U.S. Courthouse separately on Tuesday afternoon.

Trump must be loving every minute of it - The nation's media outlets all focused on him, like they were on OJ Simpson's Bronco chase.

Because of what is happening at the Federal courthouse in Miami, mass media will not report anything any of other GOP candidates said during any Prime Time broadcasts.

It's going to be all Donald Trump, all day on the news. Trump wins the news cycle again.

Both former President Donald Trump and his aide Walt Nauta were booked by authorities at Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. U.S. Courthouse in Miami shortly before 2:30 p.m., CNN’s Kristen Holmes said.

Trump, 76, is expected to plead not guilty to 37 federal charges stemming from his treatment of top secret documents after leaving the White House at a hearing set for around 3 p.m..

Nauta faces six charges related to him allegedly helping Trump conceal the documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort.

Although Trump is not paying for Nauta’s attorney directly, the Navy veteran’s legal representation is covered by a Trump-aligned organization, CNN said.

Trump, Nauta 'always close,' but aide likely feels 'trapped': former press sec

Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said Tuesday afternoon that Donald Trump and Walter Nauta were “always close,” but added that the aide must be feeling “trapped” as he faces multiple federal charges alongside the former commander-in-chief.

Grisham – who served as Trump’s press secretary from July 2019 through April 2020 – told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that she hopes Nauta is being advised well by his attorneys.

Nauta, a Navy veteran, is facing six federal charges related to allegedly helping Trump store and conceal top secret documents after he left the White House in Jan. 2021.

Nauta and Trump were both booked in Miami on Tuesday afternoon, and are set to be arraigned around 3 p.m..

"The people in charge of this country do not love America. They hate Donald Trump," Trump spokesperson and attorney Alina Habba – who is not representing Trump in the documents case – told NBC News outside the courthouse.

Habba compared Trump to Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, who she alleged are being held to a lesser standard than the real estate mogul.

The proceedings are scheduled to take place around 3 p.m..

Trump, who turns 77 on Wednesday, is expected to plead not guilty to 37 counts related to the allegedly mishandling of top secret documents after he left the White House in Jan. 2021.

His aide, Walter Nauta, is facing six related charges. Both men were booked at Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. U.S. Courthouse shortly before 2:30 p.m..

Trump, 76, appeared at the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. US Courthouse in Miami for the historic hearing alongside attorneys Chris Kise and Todd Blanche.

He is facing extensive federal charges stemming from his alleged mistreatment and concealment of top secret documents after he left the White House in January 2021.

Trump's aide Walter Nauta was also indicted last week on six related charges.

Make no mistake: at today’s arraignment you are watching a sitting President use his DOJ to put his top political rival in jail.

Both sides of the aisle should be able to set aside their emotions and see how dangerous of a precedent this sets.

Trump has now pleaded not guilty to all 37 counts. The Trump team is indicating that it will challenge the use of the Espionage Act. As stated last week, I am skeptical that such an attack would succeed given prior cases. Yet, even if successful, it would still leave six counts.

...The most important aspect of these initial challenges may be the delay that they will cause. Smith wants a speedy trial for a reason, but even if he can get through these challenges, Trump's litigation schedule may make a pre-election trial even more difficult.

Former President Donald Trump has left federal court in Miami after pleading not guilty to all 37 charges in the indictment related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents following the raid at his Florida home last year.

He left the courthouse garage with his motorcade and is likely heading to the airport to fly back to New Jersey, according to CNN.

Per conditions of his release, Trump will not have to surrender his passport and no limitations have been placed on domestic or international travel, CBS reported.

He is also barred from communicating with co-defendant and aide Walt Nauta about the case.

Former President Donald Trump stopped at a Miami cafe on Tuesday after pleading not guilty to federal charges in a nearby courtroom.

Trump stopped at Versailles, where he was greeted by religious leaders and supporters who prayed with him. He also ordered some pastries.

'Food for everyone," he said. The crowd sang "Happy Birthday" to him. The former president's birthday is tomorrow.

It came shortly after he was booked and pleaded not guilty to 37 felony charges related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
