Thank you for the kind words!  I like it here!

I'd like to take a moment to mention your book!  I've started reading it...it's not light reading, but very meaty!  The title is in your signature line and there is a Kindle version at Amazon.  @Bigun recommends it very highly and he is one of the most intelligent Briefers  know!

Every day try to help or at least compliment or thank several people, not everyone, but several.
It will make you and them feel better, really.
A big man who looked much like Shaquille O'Neill worked the dairy cooler every morning at my grocery store. One morning, I patted him on the shoulder and said, "Have I ever thanked you for feeding me?"
He replied with a smile, "Several times."  I also tell the hard-working staff, "You're the last link in the food chain."

I pass these small slips out daily.

Founder Benjamin Franklin wrote in "Management of the Poor," "I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I travelled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer."

“If there is anything in nature, which the human mind, which human intelligence, energy and power could not create, then the creator of such things must be a being superior to man.  But the heavenly bodies in their eternal orbits could not be created by man.  They must therefore be created by a being greater than man. … Only an arrogant fool would imagine that there is nothing in the whole world greater than himself.  Therefore there must be something greater than man  And that something must be God.” – Chrysippus (279- 206  B.C.)

For over thirty years, I have been notifying southern California drivers of burned out brake lights every time I drive, in order to prevent their being rear-ended.  The Department of Transportation enacted Standard 108 requiring center high stop lamps (CHSL) in every car and light truck sold in the U.S. since around 1990.  Research determined that the CHSL prevents about 5% of rear end collisions but not if it is burned our or hidden behind heavily tinted rear windows, which I see all the time.

California legislators violated the Constitution by overruling Standard 108 with Vehicle Code 26708 which clearly states that rear windows can be tinted as dark as anyone wishes, so long as the driver has two outside rear-view mirrors!  (They don't prevent rear end collisions.  CHSLs do.)  I wrote to President Trump asking him to sign an executive order mandating compliance with federal vehicle safety law.

I have continued to supplement my website showing hundreds of photographs of cars at risk of rear end collisions due to invisible or greatly diminished visibility of CHSL.  So far the D.O.T. has done nothing, and neither has California.  But it has banned plastic straws, so......

For thirty years, I commuted to work twenty-five miles while listening to talk radio and classical music.  One morning a woman called in and said, "I'm a feminist."  I thought, Uh oh."  Then she said, "I have learned that if you treat your husband like a king, he will treat you like a queen."  Now that is a brilliant message for all of us to live by.  I always referred to my wife as "My better two thirds."  And she truly was.

"In comparative terms, there's no poverty in America by a long shot. Heritage Foundation political scientist Robert Rector has worked up figures showing that when the official U.S. measure of poverty was developed in 1963, a poor American family had an income twenty‑nine times greater than the average per capita income in the rest of the world. An individual American could make more money than 93 percent of the other people on the planet and still be considered poor." ‑‑ P.J. O'Rourke, in Parliament of Whores

Have fun with strangers.  Whenever you're out of the house, you will come across people you have never met before.  What fun it is to interact with them.  You can try to guess where they are from, as I did with a gas station attendant. "Are you from Africa?"  yes!  "East Africa?"  wide eyed "yes!"  "Ethopia?"  Bug-eyed: "100% correct!"
We high -fived and his associate walked up.  "Do you know the capital of his country? He knows I know.  Do you?"
Associate says dejectedly, "Shit" and turns around walking away.  I say "Addis Ababa".  Clerk says, "I am from Addis Ababa!"
So began my guessing countries of origin, and often even cities.

To Costco food server:  "Namaste".  He replies, "Namaste."  "Let me guess.  Are you from Mumbai?"  Mahesh replied, "Yes, I am from Mumbai."  Lucky guess, but even if you're wrong, it's fun.  When you are right, and I have been right a lot of times, it is overjoyful.

Other lines:  (Put your hands on two people's shoulders at the table):  "Keep it down here;  we don't want any trouble."

To a big bruiser, placing your hand on his shoulder in a friendly manner:  "If there's a rumble, I'm on your side."  Invariably I get, "You got it."  Another new friend.

“When I began my career as a cosmologist some twenty years ago, I was a convinced atheist. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that one day I would be writing a book purporting to show that the central claims of Judeo-Christian theology are in fact true, that these claims are straightforward deductions of the laws of physics as we now understand them. I have been forced into these conclusions by the inexorable logic of my own special branch of physics.”-

My Best Prank Ever

Our daughters were about 4 and 9 when I came home and told them, "I have a surprise for you.  Let's all get in the car."    My wife asked, "What is it?"  I replied, "If I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise."
I drove them five minutes to get off of the 405 Freeway near Orange County Airport, and to throw them off my prank, said:  "We're going for a plane ride. I have a friend who is a pilot."
My wife objected, "We have to be back in an hour."  Oh we will be, no problem.

Christi started to get into the back seat and I said, "I think you need to sit in the right front." She looked at me suspiciously and did as I asked.  My instructor, who had just given me my final check ride before certifying me, was in on the prank and pre-flighted our Cessna 172 then said, "I have to get something from the office. I 'll be right back."  I hopped into the pilot's seat and closed the door: "I bet I can fly this thing."

My wife about went crazy and our daughters got upset as I yelled “Clear,” started the engine and radioed the tower.  "Cessna 8 Kilo Yankee to taxi.  Dear, I've been taking flying lessons for three months and just got my license today."  (4/27/78 with a whole 23 hours of flight time)  I took them up the coast, circled Marineland of the Pacific, and then flew back down the coast.  The girls loved it and were glued to the windows for their first flight.  "How will you get back to the airport?", she queried.  "Well, I can follow the coast south and then turn in towards the airport at Newport Beach."  Another question for me:  "Have you ever been this far from the airport before?"  Wives think of everything, don't they?  "How about Bakersfiield, 150 miles?"

I wish I had a video of the whole thing, but it was before smart phones.  Months later, I flew them to the Grand Canyon, dropped down inside its mile wide expanse, spent the night at the South Rim, and the following day, toured Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon, Utah by air before spending the next night in Las Vegas.

This is our later flight to Grand Canyon, Zion National Park and Las Vegas.

If you think your family and passengers' lives depend on you while you drive a car, multiply that by ten for being the Pilot In Command.  It is humbling and for good reason.  The takeoff and flight part is duck soup.  Everything comes down to landing, I'm telling you!

For those of you with sons or grandsons, prevent stupid accidents by telling them stories such as mine.
This was certainly not the stupidest thing I have ever done, but it's a doozy.  No upside but a lifetime of downside for failure.

I ran down my roof on the left and jumped up to my next door neighbor's roof on the right.

Years later, I was on top of the second story roof of apartments I owned and was sizing up an identical kind of jump, only considerably longer.  I looked back at my air conditioning mechanic, and he shook his head "NO"!  I respected his wisdom and did not become a paraplegic.

A lot of you (over 1,000) have shown this message to sons and grandsons, as I had hoped, to prevent them from becoming "winners" of the Darwin Award.  For those who haven't heard of it, the Darwin Award is given annually to five or ten people who assumed ambient temperature by doing the stupidest things imaginable, thus eliminating their own DNA from further downgrading civilization.  Mea almost culpa, only I escaped every time, like so many other men have.

One can earn the Darwin Award without dying.  An injury that sterilizes someone can qualify a recipient because that person can't reproduce.

I give thanks daily for my many blessings in life, and ask for blessings for the many family members and friends who have blessed me.  Along with that long list, I ask for blessings for those who have blessed humanity so richly, from great leaders to great educators to great musicians, such as Beethoven and Mozart.

Just this day it crossed my mind to think of what person has had the greatest influence on mankind for good.  It didn't take long to name George Washington for his leadership in defeating the British, for surviving the war with American Indians, for being our first and perhaps best president.  Chief Red Hawk said he "had eleven fair shots" at Washington sitting on horseback, and missed every one.  Convinced that the Great Spirit was protecting Washington, Red Hawk ceased firing. The chief said I must meet this man who is protected by the Great Spirit.  And he did.

I created this tee shirt to correct the name of The Table. It is NOT "periodic."  The elements are.
Get one for your high school or college age kids/grandkids.  I only purchased ten but I can order more.
They cost me $25 each and I'll sell them for my cost plus postage.  Send me a private message and I will tell you where to send your check.

Eyesight
We take this for granted, but it is only possible by design, and the creation of profound fortuitous interdependencies (PFIs).
1.  Air is, for all practical purposes, invisible.  But so too are water, inside our eyes and lenses.  This invisible nature of liquid and solid matter permits the perfect transmission of light.  Not only perfect transmission BUT ALSO,
2.  The bending of light within the vitreous humor, reversing images onto the retinas, where the images are perfectly collected into some marvelous,
3.  Nerve transmissions through the optic nerve to receptors in the,
4.  Human brain, reading and interpreting nerve impulses and converting it into,
5.  Perfect images received from any distance by both eyes, without,
6.  Any interference from other electromagnetic radiation because all light passes through all light, perfect and unchanged.
Wavelengths of the same or differing frequencies never add nor subtract from other wavelengths of any imaginable source.
If you think all this "just happened" from water dripping onto rocks, you are delusional.

Eighty-five percent of Nobel Laureates in the 20th Century were believers in Nature's God, as He is called in our Declaration of Independence.
My book is filled with examples of PFIs such as this.

Since graduating from college, I have been an avid student of history. Only this month did I discover this incredibly important event.   I doubt that many reading this have heard of it if I have not.

The Defeat of Japan

American fighter pilot, First Lieutenant Marcus McDilda, was captured by the Japanese while strafing Osaka on August 8, 1945, two days after Hiroshima was decimated by the first atomic bomb.

Tortured under interrogation, Lieutenant McDilda made up a story which forced the surrender of Japan, because they thought the U.S. could not build more than one to three atomic bombs. He told his interrogators that America had 100 more atomic bombs and the next two targets were Tokyo and Osaka, “within the next few days.” These were the only Japanese cities he could name. This terrified the Japanese high command, fearing devastation of the whole country without the invasion they were certain would come, and force America to sue for peace, letting them save face and retain their power. McDilda did more to end the Pacific war than any U.S. General or Admiral.

Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu, who signed the surrender document aboard the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945, wrote in his diary:

The harbor was filled with American warships as far as one could see, hundreds of vessels. Aircraft filled the sky, in formations that blocked the sun. The Americans displayed their power not through threats but through simple presence.
This armada represented a fraction of their total military force, yet exceeded everything Japan possessed at the peak of our power.
We prepared for war for a decade. They prepared for fifteen months and buried us.\

Our military ordered one million purple heart medals in preparation for the invasion of Japan, which never came.  We are still using those today, and may never run out of them.

A few days ago, I learned the remarkable story of Lieutenant Marcus McDilda, who saved hundreds of thousands of American and allied troops lives by fabricating a story about America having "100 more atom bombs" soon to be dropped on Japanese cities, devastating them.

Today, I learned about Simo Häyhä, a Finnish sniper who quit school after fourth grade to work on his farm.  He had 542 confirmed kills of Soviet soldiers in the 98 day war the USSR started in 1939.  His is a world record that almost certainly never be broken. It is all the more remarkable considering that he achieved it with iron sights zeroed in at 150 yards.

Soviet soldiers first nicknamed him "The Magic Shooter" and later, "The White Death."
In the winter, snow blanketed Finland and Simo wore white as camouflage, top to bottom.

Simo died in 2002 at the age of 96.

Incidentally, snipers use an average of 1.3 bullets per enemy killed.
In WWI, the average number of bullets used per enemy killed was 7,000.
In WWII, the average number of bullets used per enemy killed jumped to 100,000.

pointing-up :da man:

You're making all the rest of the guys jealous - and I love it.

But on to business.  Virtually every state in America violates federal safety law by overruling the Department of Transportation Safety Standard 108, mandating a highly visible middle brake light for all cars and light trucks.   According to our Constitution, federal law is the supreme law of the land, but states don't seem to care.  They do what they want.  Look at the craziness today.

Here's the link showing blatant disregard for your safety:

https://www.tinting-laws.com/california/

California Window Tinting Laws

California window tint law restricts windshield tint on top 4 inches.

Front side windows must have 70% light transmission or more. Back side windows and rear window may have any tint darkness.

Car window tinting laws in California were enacted in 1999.

We have provided all the necessary information about your car’s window tint, including how dark or reflective the tint is allowed in your state.

There are also additional car window tinting rules and regulations in California so make sure you read all about it below.

Window Tint Darkness in California
/
/

Tint darkness for sedans:
Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield.

Front Side windows: Aftermarket film must allow more than 88% of light in, or minimum 70% VLT if combined with factory-tinted windows.

Back Side windows: Any darkness can be used.

Rear Window: Any darkness can be used.

___________________________________________________________________

Any darkness can be used in Arizona, Illinois, Texas, Missouri, New York, Nevada, Ohio, New Jersey, Utah

Remaining states specify percentages of light that “must be let in” down to only 12%, all overruling federal safety Standard 108.

Put a smile on many faces, every day you can.

At coffee shops and outdoor dining locations, I find a table with 4 to 8 people over thirty and place my hands gently on two of their shoulders:
"Keep it down here. We don't want any trouble." It has never failed.

A young man sitting with his wife and child or children: Hand on his shoulder: "You're a lucky man. Dr. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, said, 'There is almost nothing a father can do wrong if he shows his children that he loves their mother'."

It has never failed. Big smiles, big joy. Wonderful lesson.

There are many Asians in my community.  At McDonalds this week, seven well-dressed, elderly Korean men were at a booth and I walked up behind one on the end and put my hand on his shoulder and the other hand on his friend's shoulder.  I had their full attention and announced, "There is much wisdom at this table.  All of them laughed.  I had just made seven new friends.  Could have gotten a free lunch from them, I betcha.

One of the last statements that the atheist George Bernard Shaw said before his death in 1950 was that he had pinned his hopes on atheism, but he had found that atheism did not solve the problems of the world. "The science to which I pinned my faith is bankrupt. Its counsels, which should have established the millennium, have led directly to the suicide of Europe. I believed them once. In their name I helped to destroy the faith of millions. And now they look at me and witness the great tragedy of an atheist who has lost his faith." (Too True to Be Good).

“Neither the wisest constitution nor the wisest laws will secure the liberty and happiness of a people whose manners are universally corrupt.” — Samuel Adams (1749)

Sounds like New York, California, Washington, Oregon, and Illinois.
