Kamala Harris looks VERY animated as she visits Tennessee to support two black Democrat lawmakers expelled from legislature over gun control protest in wake of Nashville massacreDaily Mail/UK, Apr 8, 2023
An animated and passionate Kamala Harris made a last-minute trip to Nashville on Friday, where she condemned Republicans for their 'cowardice' in refusing to allow debate over gun control, and urged young people to rise up for what they believe in.
Harris traveled to the Tennessee capital after two black Democratic state representatives were expelled on Thursday for staging a protest inside the House, demanding more gun control.
A white female Democrat lawmaker who joined in the protest kept her job, sparking racism allegations.
Their protest came three days after the March 27 shooting at a Nashville school, which killed six people, including three children.
Harris, thumping the lectern, told a crowd at Fisk University - an historically black school - that more needed to be done to end school shootings.
'Every generation has its calling,' she told them. 'And so in particular, to all the young leaders here: This issue is going to require your leadership. We need you.'
The 58-year-old vice president whipped up the crowd, urging them to have courage in their convictions.
'The issue, which gets back to these three, is that we need leaders who have the courage to act at state houses and in Washington, D.C., in the United States Congress,' she said.
'Have the courage to act instead of the cowardice to not allow debate.'
She said the 'Tennessee Three' were acting to protect students.
'Let's understand the underlying issue is about fighting for the safety of our children,' she thundered.
Her voice rising, she declared: 'It's been years now where they are taught to read and write - and hide in a closet and be quiet if there's a mass shooter at their school; where our children, who have God's capacity to learn and lead, who go to school in fear".
