Police responded to a shooting Covenant School, a private Christian elementary school

   First responders in Tennessee are on the scene a shooting at a Nashville-area elementary school Monday.

Authorities have yet to confirm how many people have been injured or killed in the incident, but police say officers engaged with and killed the shooter. Covenant School is a private Christian institution for students up to 6th grade, according to its website.

"We are responding to an active aggressor at 33 Burton Hills Blvd Covenant School. We can confirm we have multiple patients," the Nashville Fire Department said Monday.

"Parents coming to the school should go to 20 Burton Hills at this time, this is an active scene," the statement continued.

The Metro Nashville PD confirmed the shooter's death in a statement, adding that the school was already working on reunifying parents and children.

"An active shooter event has taken place at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr. The shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead. Student reunification with parents is at Woodmont Baptist Church, 2100 Woodmont Blvd.," the department wrote in a statement.

The Nashville branch of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) has also deployed agents to assist the MNPD in responding to the attack.

Six people including three children are dead after a shooting at a private school in Nashville.

The incident took place at the Covenant School on the outskirts of the city shortly after 10.30am on Monday.

Police say the gunman - who has not yet been named - killed three kids and two adults before being shot dead by police.

The shooter has not yet been named and it remains unclear what his motive was.

Three students and two adults are dead after an active shooter entered Covenant School, a private Christian school in Tennessee, Vanderbilt University Medical Center officials told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The Nashville Fire Department is treated “multiple patients” after responding to an “active aggressor” within the school, according to a tweet. The Metro Nashville Police Department “engaged” with the aggressor and reported the shooter is now dead.

Well, the narrative is already broken by it being a woman. One for the record books. I personally cannot think of a single time a grown woman has ever committed a school shooting. Very unusual. As you say, the only real 'motive' is insanity, regardless of the surrounding circumstances.
