Has Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis peaked already?
by Paul Bedard, Washington Secrets Columnist |
March 24, 2023 08:47 AM

After two new polls showed former President Donald Trump in a resurgence and beating Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) decisively in a 2024 primary matchup, it isn’t too early to ask if the Florida governor has peaked.

While it was DeSantis on the rise earlier this year, the Monmouth University poll just put Trump’s lead at 41%-27%. DeSantis led Trump in that poll as recently as December.

In a new McLaughlin & Associates survey, Trump led 46%-23%, a 2-1 gap. Two months ago, DeSantis was at 31% and Trump was at 43% in that poll.

What if the ultimate nominee ends up to be neither Trump or DeSantis?

DeSantis is unlikely to win the nomination. And Trump is unlikely to win the general. This early in the game can be full of surprises.

What happens if more and more Republicans resent the idea that Donald Trump and his supporters have that he’s entitled to this nomination?

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Polls at this point don't mean jack. I think more candidates could run.

With the main fight between DeSantis and Trump, I think the nominee won't be either one of them.

As for the last question, I think there are a lot of Republicans who do resent the idea that Trump and his supporters have that he is entitled to the nomination.  It's one thing if he is President but he isn't so he has to earn the nomination like everyone else.

How do you peak before you've even started?

DeSantis is still not a candidate for President.

The Stone/Pecker slime machine, as sleazy as they are as Trump's henchmen are incredibly successful.

I have a feeling they have been undermining DeSantis for at least a year.

Donald Trump has been posting things at his “TruthSocial” that would cause psychiatric patients at the hospital I am employed at to lose their Internet privileges.

Love how all Trump's teams are firing off the 16 inch guns before DeSantis is even in the race. Abysmal political instincts.

Exactly.  Trump, the MSM and the DEMS want him gone.
