No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

A man about to die.....

I always liked receiving practical gifts. It was my husband who didn't.

I always liked practical gifts as well. One year hubby got me luggage. I'm still scratching my head over that. :rolling: :rolling:

Nope. If he had been a more subtle person, I might have thought he was telling me to pack my stuff.

He won it somehow, or got it at work. My dad would come home with all kinds of crap he got at work.
government cheese
government survival crackers
lots of fish - from friends
even a bass boat and a toyota truck
people had stuff they didn't need so they brought it to work and gave it away
it was always something

That's right where I went with it @berdie ... Yeah... the implication was awful.

Some of you women missed the memo....

I had a Southern gal for a girlfriend a long time ago, who knew I wouldn't get her a dang thing, or if I did, it would be something she would not like... She was sure to leverage the matriarchy and it's influence over patriarchy to indirectly get a list of suitable gifts into my hand. Input would be within my reach via her BFF, Suggestions from the gals going with my friends, even through my own kin to a degree.. Without it, I was surely lost, and would probably buy her a set of wrenches.  :nono:

ETA: Of course, to my way of thinking, she could have just told me outright... Seems the simple way. But that ain't how females work, I guess.

Sure made things easy, and she could fake surprise beautifully. I never caught on till years later.

Nowadays there is enoough genealogical dna testing that the secret won't remain a secret forever.

One of my son's best friends found out last year that his grandpa wasn't his grandpa.  Oops.  On the bright side (I guess) is that the old man died about 10 years ago, and didn't have to deal with it.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

I guess the question is, was the guy a good grandpa whether or not he was blood related.
