Racism raises Alzheimer’s risk for non-White Americans, HHS claims in new report

"Entrenched systemic racism" is a significant risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in non-White Americans, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) claimed in its 2022 update on how to fight the disease.

The HHS' "National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease" said Black, Hispanic and low-income populations are more likely to face health-related risk factors that contribute to Alzheimer’s and said this disparity is due to "structural inequities" that are the result of racism. Those inequities include "underinvestment in education systems, less walkable communities, decreased access to nutritious food, barriers to health care access and low quality of care in their communities."

The report recommended that one way to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s is to focus on "cultural competence and equity."

"This requires that addressing SDOH [social determinants of health], entrenched systemic racism, and other forms of discrimination be prioritized, rather than focusing solely on individual behaviors," the report said.

The Alzheimer’s Association, a nonprofit that advocates research and early detection of the disease, indicates that age is the biggest risk factor – the group says 73% of people with Alzheimer’s or dementia are 75 years and older but also notes that two-thirds are women.

Black people are twice as likely as White people to develop Alzheimer’s, and Hispanics are about 1.5 times more likely than Whites to get it.

While Obamacare destroyed many small hospitals and clinics, I'm sure that there are still free clinics available to Blacks and Hispanics funded by the taxpayer and if it's the result of racism it goes right back to the Mulatto and democrats. Underinvestment in education? Bullshit! less walkable communities? Is that the White man's fault? No it's because of lazy ass Black and Brown gangbangers and scum that refused to educate themselves at the schools the taxpayers provided. Decreased access to nutritious food? Well if the Black and Brown lowlifes didn't burn down the stores or steal so much of the inventory that the stores had to shut down and pull out it wouldn't be a problem.

 How convenient that everything is because of racism and never anything to do with the individuals actually responsible. I suppose the only answer is to throw more of Americans tax dollars down the toilet?

Not only is every community "walkable," as long as you get off your fat butt and do it, I'm pretty sure they do have access to nutritious food. They get SNAP - it's all free. Those of us who actually have to pay for our groceries might find "accessing" it a bit difficult, especially when Bidenflation kicks in, but this whole food desert trope is nonsense.

This conclusion is based on the absurd woke belief that all differences in outcomes between different human populations are necessarily due to one group (almost always white heterosexual Christian men) oppressing another group.

I have never heard how the advantage people of East African ancestry on average have in sprint speed is the result of systemic oppression of one group by another, nor who is oppressing whom to cause first and second generation Nigerian-Americans and Korean-Americans to have higher household incomes than Americans of European ancestry or to account for the longevity of Japanese-Americans, but according to their theory someone must be oppressing someone to result in such disparities.
