Nov 20 (Reuters) - Five people were killed and 18 injured in a shooting at a nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, police said on Sunday.

The police got the initial phone call just before midnight on Saturday evening about the shooting at the club, known as Club Q, Colorado Springs Lieutenant Pamela Castro told media.

At least five people were killed and at least 18 others wounded in an attack just before midnight Saturday on a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

CNN reports that the attack was carried with a firearm Club Q and 911 calls about the shooting started coming in at 11:57 p.m.

Colorado Springs Police Lt. Pamela Castro said police have located one individual in the club believed to be the suspect. “At this point in time, the suspect is being treated, but is in custody,” she said.

NBC News also quoted Castro saying, “We have numerous people transported to multiple local hospitals via ambulance and police cruisers. The hospitals are helping us to notify family who have been injured.”

Cops identify suspect in Colorado LGBTQ nightclub shooting
Colorado Police are still investigating whether the attack at Club Q was a hate crime

    Police have identified the suspect in Saturday night's mass shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado, but are still investigating whether the attack was a hate crime.

Police say Anderson Lee Aldrich, 22, used a long rifle to carry out the attack and was already subdued by patrons at Club Q by the time officers arrived. Authorities say at least 5 people were killed and 18 injured in the attack, though they warned that those numbers are not final.

Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez delivered an update to reporters alongside city Mayor John Suthers and other officials Sunday morning. Aldrich is in custody and is receiving treatment of injuries at a local hospital.

Police say they received the first call regarding the attack at 11:56 p.m. on Saturday, and the first officer was dispatched to the scene at 11:57. The officer arrived to the scene at 12:02 a.m. and took the already-subdued suspect into custody before calling for more support.

Aldrich had a previous run-in with police in 2021, when police arrested him for allegedly making a bomb threat against two homes in Colorado Springs, according to KRDO.

It was reported to police at the time that Aldrich, then 21, had created a homemade explosive device and had weapons and ammunition. Police arrived to the scene and Aldrich refused to surrender, but was later taken into custody.

Aldrich faced two counts of felony menacing and three counts of first-degree kidnapping for the incident.

Officials say the number of victims at the club is fluctuating, as some of those injured traveled to area hospitals using private means.

Vasquez says "at least two heroic people" took action to stop the shooter from causing more damage.

A man who survived a deadly attack at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs Saturday night told how he hid in a dressing room with two other people after shots rang out.

Joshua Thurman, 34, told reporters how he had been dancing on the dancefloor at Club Q when he first heard about four or five gunshots.

'I thought it was the music because there were no screams, no shouts of "Help, help," nothing like that,' he said. 'Then I heard more shots and saw the flash from the muzzle of the gun.'

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York criticized Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, an outspoken gun-rights advocate, due to a shooting at a Colorado Springs bar.

A gunman killed five people and 18 others suffered injuries at a Colorado Springs bar Saturday night before two people tackled the gunman and held him until police arrived, CNN reported. At least two people were in critical condition at one local hospital.

“@laurenboebert you have played a major role in elevating anti-LGBT+ hate rhetoric and anti-trans lies while spending your time in Congress blocking even the most common sense gun safety laws,” Ocasio-Cortez posted on Twitter.

Liberal media outlets blamed Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson and criticism of drag shows for children for the ruthless attack on an LGBTQ nightclub Sunday night.

The New York Times and NBC News pinned the “right-wing” for the attack at Club Q in Colorado Springs where the suspect, Anderson Lee Aldrich, allegedly opened fire into a crowd upon entering the building. The incident killed five and injured at least 25 others.

Both outlets asserted that the shooting occurred as parents and activists have expressed concern over drag events for young children. The club reportedly scheduled a drag brunch for Sunday in honor of Trans Remembrance Day, a commemoration of transgender people who have lost their lives, according to the Times.

The New York Times said the threats targeted toward drag events were caused by over 200 conservative demonstrators in Oregon, and by the Proud Boys in California, Maryland and North Carolina. The outlet then pinned Carlson, Fox News anchor Jesse Watters, Twitter account “Libs of TikTok” and Republican Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert for their so-called “disapproving coverage” on drag events for children.

“Events featuring performers in drag have received disapproving coverage from some of the most prominent voices on the political right, including the Fox News hosts Tucker Carlson and Jesse Watters, who frequently claim that the events are dangerous for children,” the Times wrote. “As Mr. Carlson spoke during one of his broadcasts, a headline on the screen read: ‘Pervy men dressed as women dance provocatively in front of child for ‘all-age’ brunch at Texas restaurant.'”

The Colorado shooter was arrested last year after threatening his Mom with a bomb. He was able to pass a background check because his charges were dropped. Colorado also has a red flag law. Before you talk about passing new gun laws, maybe the ones on the books should be enforced.

Figliuzzi said, “It is it about instilling fear, and the correct response for the rest of us is to step up and push back right at them. So it’s hatred. It’s clinging to weapons. It’s ignorance of the other, demonizing the other. We said this over and over again. But strategically, what appears to be happening is they want to deny people the safe haven and safe harbor, whether we’re talking about kids in school feeling unsafe because of guns. Black churches feeling like they are going to get shot up, like at a Bible study that’s happened in South Carolina. Whether it’s synagogues, whether it’s the gay club on a weekend night, there seems to be a concerted effort to not only instill fear but deny the safe places.”

Fierro said he was at a table in Club Q with his wife, daughter and friends on Saturday, watching a drag show, when the sudden flash of gunfire ripped across the nightclub. His instincts from four combat deployments as an Army officer in Iraq and Afghanistan instantly kicked in. Fight back, he told himself.

When the shooting started, Mr. Fierro said, he hit the floor, pulling a friend down with him. Mr. Fierro, who served in the Army for 15 years, said he raced across the room, grabbed the gunman by a handle on the back of his body armor, pulled him to the floor and jumped on top of him.

The gunman, who Mr. Fierro estimated weighed more than 300 pounds, sprawled onto the floor, his military-style rifle landing just out of reach. Mr. Fierro started to go for the rifle, but then saw that the gunman had a pistol as well.

“I grabbed the gun out of his hand and just started hitting him in the head, over and over,” Mr. Fierro said.

As the fight continued, he said, he yelled for other club patrons to help him. A man grabbed the rifle and moved it away to safety. A drag dancer stomped on the gunman with her high heels. The whole time, Mr. Fierro said, he kept pummeling the shooter’s head while the two men screamed obscenities at each other.

I just want to make sure I’m correct in understanding that the Left is using the tragedy in Colorado to make the argument that unless conservatives get on board with experimenting on children’s genitals with puberty blockers, then nightclub shootings will continue to happen.

Where's the evidence the shooter cared about drag queens grooming children for sexual perversion, anyway? They immediately jumped on the "hate crime" train without proof that this guy was motivated by hatred for homosexuals or men who dress in women's clothing.
