In 2021, the Air Force validated its ability to land modern aircraft, including the A-10 Thunderbolt II, on a public highway and send them back up into the air. On June 29, 2022, the Air Force expanded on this capability by performing the first refueling and rearming on a public U.S. highway.

Northern Agility 22-1 was an exercise led by the Michigan Air National Guard in the state’s Upper Peninsula. In Alger County, a 9,000-foot stretch of Michigan Highway M-28 was closed off to support integrated combat turns for multiple aircraft. ICTs enable the quick rearming and refueling of a running jet.

Ordinarily, I'd say "Neat!", but I wonder if someone up the food chain is waving some part of their nether regions at Americans, here.

The A-10 was designed, from the start, to be able to operate from highways (think autobahns ... i.e. a Russian assault on Germany) if need be. This exercise was training for both pilots and ground crews in a capability the plane has always had.

Don't worry about it. There are damn few US military pilots that would do something like that,even if ordered to do it.

Chances are that any in a flight decided to do something like that,that his squadron mates would shoot him down.

It was MY experience in the military that the weasels all end up working in offices or becoming MP's. No way in HELL are they going into any infantry unit and a gun toter.
