WH’s Deese: ‘In Terms of the Technical Definition,’ Two Negative Quarters of Growth ‘Not a Recession’

Trent Baker 25 Jul 2022

As concerns mount about a possible recession this year, White House National Economic Council director Brian Deese argued that a second consecutive quarter of negative GDP growth was technically “not a recession.”

According to Deese, the “technical definition considers a much broader spectrum of data points.” He also emphasized the need to look ahead rather than “technical debates about backward-looking data.”

CNN “New Day” host John Berman said, “It sounds like you’re anticipating what will be comments from some saying two quarters of negative growth in a row — that’s a recession.”

“Right,” Deese replied. “And certainly, in terms of the technical definition, it’s not a recession. The technical definition considers a much broader spectrum of data points. But in practical terms, what matters to American people is whether they have a little economic breathing room, they have more job opportunities, their wages are going up. That has been Joe Biden’s focus since coming into office. He has had a view of the economy that we need to look to build from the bottom up.”

“What that means is typical working-class people in this country have had trouble affording things for years,” he continued. “He is focused on building a strong, durable, economic recovery here. We have real global challenges here in the short term. We’ve got to navigate our way through them, but we have to do so without giving up all our economic gains. That’s going to be our focus. And I think we need to train that focus on that rather than on sort of technical debates about backward-looking data.”

Dim are specializing in wordsmithing their failures......

When massive amount of people contract COVID-19, after quadruple vaxxing?........   Adjust the definition of Vaccination.

When you have a massive collapsing of the economy and you have 2Q's of negative GDP (And 4-6 to follow likely).  Redefine what a recession is.

Lie, Detract, and Deflect is the only tools in the belt that the socialist dims have.

Oh and btw, to show how the fin. shows are so in the tank for Pedo Joe.....   Bloomberg hasn't even said the "R" word today.

Two consecutive quarters of declining GDP is a recession ... or, it used to be, before the wordsmiths tried to change the meaning of the word.

The Biden admin is putting absolutely no effort into their lies.

What is a Recession?

A recession is a macroeconomic term that refers to a significant decline in general economic activity in a designated region. It had been typically recognized as two consecutive quarters of economic decline, as reflected by GDP in conjunction with monthly indicators such as a rise in unemployment. However, the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), which officially declares recessions, says the two consecutive quarters of decline in real GDP are not how it is defined anymore. The NBER defines a recession as a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months, normally visible in real GDP, real income, employment, industrial production, and wholesale-retail sales

The DEMS are never going to admit a recession, however, we're not going to breeze through this economic downturn and it will become obvious.  Personally I think we are headed for a depression.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

WH Redefines ‘Recession’ Days Before Expected GDP Report Showing More Growth Declines

Bo Banks  |  Jul 25, 2022

The White House has just redefined the word “recession” because, well, of course they did. A new GDP report is expected Thursday, which many experts anticipate will show growth declines for a second straight quarter.

Since the White House has just put out an updated definition, the Biden administration can plan on evading the r-word entirely. Or so it thinks.

“While some maintain that two consecutive quarters of falling real GDP constitute a recession, that is neither the official definition nor the way economists evaluate the state of the business cycle,” the White House wrote.  .  .

Bracing for impact: Even if Thursday's GDP report shows a second consecutive quarter of negative growth, you won't hear the Biden admin using the R-word.

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

The Biden admin changed the definition of "immunization" when the covid vaccines didn't work, changed the definition of "woman" to satisfy the woke mob, and changed the definition of "recession" when they destroyed our economy. Objective truth does not exist with these people.
