'Another tool in our toolbox': Why Special Forces soldiers host and participate in dive competition
Rachael Riley, The Fayetteville Observer - 1h ago

FORT BRAGG — Special Forces teams spent Wednesday and Thursday navigating murky water, obstacle courses and watercraft to earn bragging rights of being named the “best of the best.”

The nine teams participating in the Second Annual Best Combat Diver Competition that was hosted by the 3rd Special Forces Group were teams from the 5th Special Forces Group, 7th Special Forces Group and a team made up of a soldier from the 3rd Special Forces Group and Air Force special operations forces joint terminal attack controller, organizers said.

Sgt 1st Class R.P, whose name is withheld because of the nature of his job, is a medical sergeant with the 3rd Special Forces Group’s maritime operations and helped coordinate the event.

The idea started with two “dive locker” or maritime operational support instructors last year, R.P. said.
