Cold as Ice is familiar to me and it is a great song but Head Games...wow! It starts off powerfully and pulls you right into the music. There's no gentle lead up to a chorus or other musical hook. Actually, the song is a series of well crafted musical hooks one right after the other. It's a very intense piece. Even the ostensible intro is a powerful piece of music unto itself.

The first comment on this video:

Peter de Angelis and his orchestra and chorus deserve much of the credit for the success of this song.  The calypso beat, ethereal chorus, and echo chamber sound effects were not new, but their combination on this record made a sound that sold and created a musical trend that led to other electronic innovations, like the phasing effects in Toni Fisher's hit, The Big Hurt.  Without them, this song is just another pedestrian teen ballad -- but with them, Venus was a mega-hit for Avalon and a defining moment in popular music.  I wrote a music column for my high school paper at the time and predicted this song would still be remembered and played when we were old.  And I was right.
