Biden Will Let States and Tribes Block Pipelines, Reversing Another Trump Energy Policy

Penny Starr 3 Jun 2022

Donald Trump spent his presidency scaling back the regulatory bureaucracy around the Clean Water Act, but now Joe Biden is trying to undo what the former president did by giving power to states and tribes to stop projects like pipelines that they claim could hurt rivers and streams.

The Associated Press (AP) reported on the development:

Quote
The Trump-era rule required local regulators to focus their reviews on the pollution that projects might discharge into rivers, streams and wetlands. It also rigidly enforced a one-year deadline for regulators to make permitting decisions. Some states lost their authority to block certain projects based on allegations they blew the deadline.

Now, the EPA says states should have the authority to look beyond pollution discharged into waterways and “holistically evaluate” the impact of a project on local water quality. The proposal would also give local regulators more power to ensure they have the information they need before facing deadline pressure to issue or deny a permit.

Thursday’s proposal is the latest move by the Biden administration to tighten water regulations loosened under the Trump administration. Former President Donald Trump argued that states were improperly wielding the Clean Water Act to block needed fossil fuel projects.

Our worst enemy could never have attained the level of success at destroying this country that Joe Biden has achieved.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
Cloward-Piven.

Oil producers should have the right to let a single regulatory agency decide on permitting, not every political entity.

For that matter, why not counties and cities, and townships, and every other territorial jurisdiction?

One of, if not the biggest anti-pipeline protests, was protesting a double thickness pipe placed in a directionally drilled hole ninety feet below the bottom of the body of water.

Keep in mind, nothing is good enough for these people. Goalposts are not static, and compliance is a moving target. It takes time to change the route, rights of way have to be negotiated, surveys conducted for rare plants and animals, raptors, archaeological sites, paleontological sites, any place a preColumbian native broke wind, etc. Then there is the modified EIS for the project, if you are not required to start again from scratch.
This is just one more tool to make sure America comes in last.

I just hope and pray the AntiAmerican pisswits who actually voted for this idiot are happy.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I don't think that they truly have a clue yet as to what he has done.

His plan is being so effectively working, even Joe is likely surprised.

I am guessing this isn't going to work the way the Dims expect it to work.

I SUSPECT the various states are going to charge a "per gallon surcharge" for every gallon they allow to pass through their states, and I would bet money the Indian tribes are going to charge for access through tribal lands.
