Of course, at that end of Mexico, it would have been the Mayans doing the human sacrifice.
Their version involved willing victims -- it was the winning team in the sacred ball game who was sacrificed -- unlike the Aztecs whose child victims who had to be crying when they were killed, as their tears were though to be necessary to ensure that rain came, and the excardiation of thousands of captives from war. (There is a reason all the non-Aztecs in central Mexico sided with Cortez.)
