COVID-19 infection may offer similar immunity as vaccination

In the pre-Omicron variant era, previous symptomatic COVID-19 infection in unvaccinated patients conferred a level of protection against subsequent infections on par with that of mRNA vaccines but longer-lasting, according to a US study of more than 121,000 participants published today in JAMA Network Open.

The findings, of course, do not suggest that infection is preferred over vaccination, which is the much safer alternative.

Almost 120,000 patients studied

University of Chicago researchers led the study, using data from COVID-19 test results at 1,300 sites in six western states at Providence Health & Services from Oct 1, 2020, to Nov 21, 2021. Both vaccinated and unvaccinated patients were monitored for COVID-19 infection starting 90 days after vaccination or initial illness. ... Full story
Needless to say, I question the statement that vaccination is safer than getting infected, considering so many vaccinated people have been infected, ended up in hospitals or worse. In England, most of the people dying now of Covid are fully vaxxed.

I had Covid and haven't been vaccinated, but apparently my antibodies are just fine to protect me against future infection - at least my doctor says so.
The abnormal is not the normal just because it is prevalent.

Actually, I have seen information that indicated natural antibodies (from having been infected) are more robust than the shots, because the body responds to the entire virus, not just the spike protein.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Natural selection. Some people's genes are just better at fighting viruses.
You don’t become cooler with age but you do care progressively less about being cool, which is the only true way to actually be cool.

Duh.
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16
