Invasive spider could spread to much of East Coast, scientists say

The Joro spider’s golden web took over yards all over north Georgia in 2021, unnerving some residents. A new study suggests it could spread even farther than that.

Researchers say a large spider native to East Asia that proliferated in Georgia last year could spread to much of the East Coast.

The Joro spider’s golden web took over yards all over north Georgia in 2021, unnerving some residents. The spider was also spotted in South Carolina, and entomologists expected it to spread throughout the Southeast.

The Joro — Trichonephila clavata — is part of a group of spiders known as orb weavers for their highly organized, wheel-shaped webs. Joro females have colorful yellow, blue and red markings on their bodies and can measure three inches (8 cm) across when their legs are fully extended.

I see Banana Spiders and Garden Spiders that size all the time.

I guess these are the new Murder Hornets for 2022.

A big "outside" arachnid to reduce insect population?  I'd say that was good news.

I have to say I like spider fear porn better than covid fear porn.

Orb weavers are awesome. They take care of business. I don't see the native ones like I used to.

Truth.  I was hitting them with a quick blast of hornet killer because their webs were so high up.  We have a lot of hummingbirds, and the webs are a threat to them.

Actually, shoving a nest of them up her *ss might be best but the agony those poor spiders would experience keeps me from wanting to do it. :crying:
