Fauci: ‘Risky’ to Pull Back Mask Mandates

Pam Key 17 Feb 2022

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr. Anthony Fauci said Thursday on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” that it is “risky” for states and schools to pull back mask mandates because COVID might not be done with the United States.

Fauci said, “Right now, 97% of the country is within that zone that the CDC recommends to keep the masks on, and it is risky if you take it often right now.”

Guest anchor John Berman said, “It’s great the cases are going down, phenomenal, I’m thrilled, I guess my question is are you concerned that taking off masks in schools will cause that number to go back up again?”

Fauci said, “Well, I have said it before, John, and there’s no reason for me to change that now. It is risky. It is risky. You may get away with it very well, it’s possible you’ll get away with it, but you do have a risk when you pull back if you have a certain dynamic of infection that you’ll have a rebound. Hopefully, the states that are doing that have a plan. If, in fact, we do see a rebound up, they’ll be able to reinstitute the mitigation methods they’re now pulling back on. You know, when you want to pull back and say we’re done, well, you know, the virus may not be done with us.”

As always, Fauci has a single metric:  case numbers.  The whole problem with COVID policy has been predicating public policy on the premise that the only human good is prevention of infection by the SarCov-2 virus (and its variants).  Policy makers should have been regarding Fauci's pronouncements as one of many inputs to formulating policy, rather than the only one.  We have destroyed two years of our childrens' education, stunted their social development,  pushed up opioid use, pushed up deaths of despair (drug ODs and suicides), impoverished large swathes of our population because no one making policy in both the Trump and Biden administrations wanted to listen to anyone other than Fauci and his coterie of virologists and epidemiologists.  (Actually Trump did briefly, but uncharacteristically backed down when viciously attacked for having an expert on cost-benefit analyses in health care policy on his COVID advisory panel.)
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

I'll also note that that single metric is only based on the premise of unrestricted transmission. If a mitigation measure isn't effective (as this winter prove), he doesn't rescind it and just assumes things would be worse without it.

73% of Americans have immunity from catching O-cron.  The original Covid-19 gone. Dead. Mutated itself out and no longer a threat.   It's time to give it up little man.  We are on to your scam.

They think they've figured out how to handle the Trucker's rebellion, so out come the clamps again... I think it was too easy.

So Wednesday, Fraudci said we should start inching toward normalcy. On Thursday - not so much.

Masks solve everything, don't they?

It's risky to listen to anything Dr. Evil has to say.

It's risky to listen to anything Dr. Evil has to say.

"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn
