Goldberg criticized as historically illiterate

ABC’s "The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg declared the Holocaust was "not about race" despite the systematic killing of an estimated six million Jews, leading to sharp criticism of the outspoken liberal.

The daytime gabfest was in the midst of a conversation about a Tennessee school district voting to remove a Pulitzer Prize winning graphic novel about the Holocaust from its curriculum due to "inappropriate language" and an illustration of a nude woman. "Maus" by Art Spiegelman tells the story of his Jewish parents living in 1940s Poland and depicts him interviewing his father about his experiences as a Holocaust survivor.

Ana Navarro mentioned a Florida bill that could prevent any conversation in schools that makes students feel uncomfortable race or gender, prompting Sunny Hostin to ponder if teaching students about topics like the Holocaust could eventually be prohibited.

"The Holocaust isn’t about race," Goldberg said as her co-hosts appeared stunned.

"No, it’s not about race," Goldberg continued.

Joy Behar said, "Well, they considered Jews a different race."

"It’s not about race," Goldberg reiterated.

"What is it about?" Behar asked.

"It’s about man’s inhumanity to man, that’s what it’s about," Goldberg said. 

"But it’s about a White supremacist going after Jews and Gypsies," Navarro said as Goldberg attempted to speak over her.

"But these are two White groups of people," Goldberg said as her colleagues disagreed.

On the same summer day in 1942, Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) and hundreds of other Catholic Jews were arrested in Holland by the occupying Nazis. One hundred thirteen of those taken into custody, several of them priests and nuns, perished at Auschwitz and other concentration camps. They were murdered in retaliation for the anti-Nazi pastoral letter written by the Dutch Catholic bishops.

While Saint Teresa Benedicta is the most famous member of this group, having been canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1998, all of them deserve the title of martyr, for they were killed not only because they were Jews but also because of the faith of the Church, which had compelled the Dutch bishops to protest the Nazi regime.


That's 113 Catholics murdered at Auschwitz, not based on their religion, but based on their ethnicity (i.e. race).

This is a kind of ignorant religious racism I have seen before. Many Blacks, including Whoopi, assume all Jews are White. In the same way they assume that all Mormons are White and all Catholics are White, etc. with other branches of Christianity as well, Lutheran, Episcopalian, et. al. This belief is based on pure ignorance.

Jews are considered a race because being Jewish is based mostly on genetics (born of a Jewish mother) except for converts. Judaism is a religion and a genetic race. For example, Cohenim (Jewish Priests) are expected to be able to cite an unbroken Jewish lineage. Judaism is a religion and a race. However like most religions, there are Jews of every race on Earth.

You can be sure the KKK and Nazis did not consider Jews or Gypsies to be White People. They considered Jewishness to be a genetic characteristic. And that attitude still exists even today.

To say that all Jews/Catholics/Mormons are all White, is a striking case of blind ignorance. But the bigger question is Why? Why would she even bring this up, and jump into that topic? What is Whoopi's interest in this?

I don't understand. There is no benefit for her. All Whoopi has done is to label herself ignorant at best, and an antisemite at worst.

On Monday’s edition of “The View,” Goldberg, 66, alleged that the Holocaust was “not about race,” claiming Nazis and Jews were both white.

She doubled down on the claim on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Monday after stating via Twitter, “I stand corrected.”

It was an atrocity, but it is inaccurate to say that 'TYPICAL' Germans took part in it, the Germans/Austrians that took part were atypical. It is like saying Antifa or BLM are typical Americans.

I guess the whole Tutsi vs Hutu wasn't about race either.... according to Whoopi. Since they were both black tribes that couldn't be distinguished otherwise.

Per RedState’s original report on the matter, Whoopi Goldberg found herself in hot water the last couple of days for an antisemitic rant she gave on The View. The longtime co-host of the ABC daytime show asserted that the Holocaust was not “about race” and that it was “white people doing it to white people.”

But it was the context of her comments that made things especially egregious. Goldberg was expressing a common antisemitic trope, which is that the systematic extermination of the Jewish people during the Holocaust was not equivalent to the racial discrimination suffered by other groups. That is, of course, ludicrous and completely ahistorical.

After putting out an apology, Goldberg then went on Stephen Colbert’s show that evening and essentially doubled down.

The best take I've seen on this is the suggestion by a New York Post columnist that if Caryn Johnson feels that way she should drop the name "Goldberg" she appropriated from another cultural and racial group.  (Whoopi she can keep.)

The headlines in the media all claim some variation of "Whoopi Goldberg suspended."  Dig down, though, and it turns out that Goldberg received only a two-week suspension for parroting standard leftist claptrap that manages to reduce the Holocaust to nothing more than a catfight among White people.  Whoopi's always been a moronic, uninformed bigmouth, so I can't say I'm surprised by what she said.  Currently, the most infuriating thing about her "punishment" is the knowledge that, if she had been White or conservative, she would have been fired.

This whole thing is unbelievably tedious, and it's just too painful to repeat it all.  You can go here to see why Jews (and righteous non-Jews) were offended by what she said.

Instead of "Westside Story", it's called "Whiteside Story" ...

Instead of the gang names being "Jets" and "Sharks", theu would be named "Honkies" and "Crackers" ...

The marquee would read "Whoopie Goldberg proudly presents a Whoopie Goldberg Production of 'Whiteside Story'".

In the six months since I left The View, I haven't watched a single episode of the show.

My life has moved on.

Between this column and other projects and above all a toddler, who is the most demanding and adorable diva in my life.

The other day she insisted on having her bunny rabbit shoes and wouldn't take no for an answer; see I just don't have the time for my old friends on the show.

Nonetheless, when something goes viral from the show or ends up in the publications that I read I can't help but feel a twinge of disappointment.

It's not that I expect compelling or nuanced political discussions from daytime television, but it's sad to see the recent litany of embarrassing moments from a show I invested so much time and effort in trying to elevate to a more serious level.
