US, Russia face off over Ukraine at Security Council meeting
By Laura Kelly - 01/31/22 12:38 PM EST

The U.S. on Monday sought to rally the international community to confront Russia’s military buildup on Ukraine’s border by labeling it a threat to global peace and security, drawing condemnation from Moscow that Washington is stoking hysteria.

The U.N. Security Council meeting marked a public face-off between the U.S., Russia and the global community, following weeks of intensive diplomacy aimed at pressuring Moscow to withdraw more than 100,000 troops positioned on Ukraine’s border, which Washington says are poised to invade.

“Russia's actions strike at the very heart of the U.N. Charter. This is as clear and consequential a threat to peace and security as anyone can imagine,” the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said in her remarks.

“This is the largest, hear me clearly, mobilization of troops in Europe in decades.”

Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya vehemently dismissed arguments from the U.S., and accused Washington of “whipping up tensions and rhetoric and are provoking escalation.”

“You are almost calling for this, you want it to happen, you're waiting for it to happen, as if you want to make your words become a reality,” Nebenzya said.

I agree. Biden and the Democrats WANT this war to happen at all costs before the midterms. And I believe they are going to 'make' it happen somehow. All Biden and his clown-car 'woke' staff have been doing for weeks is pressing Ukraine to freak-out and pressing Russia to attack. When Biden said, "Putin has to do something" ... he was telling Putin to shit or get off the pot. Essentially, Biden was telling Putin that he was losing patience waiting for the war to start.

Biden to Putin, "JUST DO IT ALREADY! JEEZ MAN..."

Russia-Ukraine tensions: Powers clash at UN Security Council

There have been angry clashes between Russian and US envoys at the UN Security Council, after the US called a meeting to discuss Moscow's troop build-up on its borders with Ukraine.

US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said the mobilisation was the biggest Europe had seen in decades.

Her Russian counterpart accused the US of fomenting hysteria and unacceptable interference in Russia's affairs.

The US and UK have promised further sanctions if Russia invades Ukraine.

UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said legislation was being prepared which would target a wider range than currently of individuals and businesses close to the Kremlin.

A US official said Washington's sanctions meant individuals close to the Kremlin would be cut off from the international financial system.............
