A man is holding a rabbi and congregants hostage at a Texas synagogue, according to police, who have dispatched a SWAT team to the residential neighborhood surrounding the temple.

Police in Colleyville, a community near Dallas-Fort Worth, warned residents to stay away from the immediate area of the Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue where Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker and some of his congregants are being held hostage, according to social media and a Twitter posting by Colleyville police.

Commenters on a Facebook livestream of a service at the synagogue say a man there is holding people hostage, according to a report in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. An angry man can be heard ranting about religion on the ongoing livestream, the newspaper reported. However, the video does not show what is taking place in the temple, and it is unclear how many people are in the synagogue, the newspaper reported.

Authorities are negotiating with a man who appears to have taken hostages inside a synagogue in Colleyville.

It’s unclear how many people are inside the building or whether anyone is armed, Colleyville Police Sgt. Dara Nelson said. No injuries have been reported inside the building, she said.

Police said on Twitter around 11:30 a.m. that they were “conducting SWAT operations” in the 6100 block of Pleasant Run Road. Congregation Beth Israel is at that location.

All residents in the immediate area were being evacuated, and police asked people to avoid the area.

A live stream of the congregation’s Shabbat morning service was removed from Facebook just before 2 p.m.. In it, a man could be heard speaking, at times angrily. The stream began at 10 a.m. and did not show what was going on inside the building.

Commenters on Facebook left messages asking for prayers that the situation would end peacefully.

Nelson said negotiators have made contact with somebody inside the synagogue who they believe is a suspect. Authorities don’t believe there is a threat to the general public.

Authorities have not been inside the building, Nelson said.

Police are aware of the livestream showing the inside of the synagogue, Nelson said.

”Negotiators have contact with this person and are working to come to a safe resolution,” she said.

The FBI and state Department of Public Safety are also involved in the police response, Nelson said.

Around 2:30 p.m., several emergency vehicles — including ambulances, fire trucks and an armored police truck with a long arm on its front that had what appeared to be a drill on the end — were staged at Colleyville Middle School, about a quarter-mile down the road from the synagogue.

ABC News reported an unnamed U.S. official briefed on the matter said the hostage-taker is claiming to be the brother of convicted terrorist Aafia Siddiqui, but authorities have not yet confirmed his identity.

Siddiqui held ties with Al Qaeda and was convicted in 2010 for the attempted murder of a U.S. soldier two years earlier in Afghanistan. She was also previously married to the nephew of Al Qaeda leader and confessed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. Siddiqui is currently incarcerated at Carswell Air Force Base near Fort Worth. The suspect at the Synagogue reportedly demanded she be released.

The Colleyville Police Department initially announced it had dispatched a SWAT team to the scene late Saturday morning.

“We are currently conducting SWAT operations around the 6100 block of Pleasant Run Rd. All residents in the immediate area are being evacuated. Please avoid the area,” the Colleyville Police tweeted.

In a major news story, four hostages were freed after a standoff at a synagogue in Texas.

The incident occurred a little before 10:40 a.m. local time, yesterday, when the police received a call about a gunman storming into the Congregation Beth Israel synagogue in Colleyville, near Fort Worth, during morning Shabbat prayers.

The service that was live-streamed via Facebook was eventually taken down.

The terrorist was heard on the livestream demanding the release of Islamist terrorist Aafia Siddiqui who was sentenced to 86 years in prison in 2010 for assault and attempted murder of a U.S. soldier. The Associated Press reported that the gunman was also heard ranting about religion and against America.

There were four hostages in the synagogue, including the head rabbi of the synagogue, Charlie Cytron-Walker.

What I want to know is who this guy is, where he came from, and how he got into the US. That's atypical. Normally local SWAT would handle with federal backup if need be.

That's atypical. Normally local SWAT would handle with federal backup if need be.
HRT is tier one domestic LE.

The FBI’s declaration that a man taking Jews hostage in a Jewish place of worship on the Jewish day of rest while trying to free an anti-Semitic terrorist had nothing to do with Jews is both insane and demonstrative of the federal government’s attitude to Islamic anti-Semitism.

There is zero doubt that the feds let into this country a man who they knew had a terrorist past and dangerous.

The FBI is not inept. They are evil and wound up silencing their 'problem'.

Now if you believe Biden and the other appeasers, they will claim we have angered the Muslim world with his killing. Watch for reparations to his family to compensate his not killing any Jews.

Jewish leaders have reportedly condemned the FBI's apparent suggestion that an attack on a synagogue could be unrelated to antisemitism, particularly considering the potential link to Siddiqui. Throughout her trial, she made antisemitic statements, and at one point demanded the jury be genetically-tested so Jewish people could be excluded.

How did he get a gun and did he have explosives?

Even with its liberal gun laws, Texas does not allow foreign citizens who are not US residents to legally purchase guns. Given that Akram reportedly arrived in the US two weeks ago, it's unclear how he obtained a weapon.

According to CBS, no explosives had been found at the synagogue (as of 12.17pm Central Time on Sunday). Akram had reportedly claimed to have bombs set up in unknown locations.

An official told CBS that Akram had joined the synagogue service on Saturday by claiming to be a homeless man. Mr Biden also said he had been told the hostage-taker spent his first night in the US in a homeless shelter.
