Saw a movie where some Mel Gibson type guy, not Mel Gibson, walks into a side room. Twenty Black guys all draw semiautos point them at the hero and cock them in unison. Then there is some kind of banter about, "Did ju bring da money!" The hero says some smartass thing about I'll go get for you right now. The pimp says, 'You ain't goin' nowhere!' All twenty of the bad guys all cock their weapons again, and again all in unison with no shells ejected. It made me laugh.
Hollywood really and truly has no idea at all how guns work. They really just do not know. All they know is that cocking a weapon is for punctuation and a threat, and shooting a weapon makes a *bang*. Beyond those two things they are clueless. Which is how we constantly see pistols and other weapons with endless rounds. They simply do not know what they are doing.
I noticed as a kid, that the 'ricochet noise' meant someone had been shot. Not the wet whap or whop sound a bullet really makes when it hits flesh, but the sound of one bouncing off a rock or a brick wall.
That little sound persists even today, when most folks in Hollywierd should know better.
The problem has been around since the talkies came into being...
