If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

But...did it "improve his marksmanship?"
That really did make me chuckle. The whole point of what used to be called a 'scattergun' is that you do not aim. You point and click. If you are shooting slugs at 200 yards then you have the wrong weapon. 50 cal long range rifle would be at least my choice. Shot guns are for game that move quickly and are difficult to bead. Birds, squirrels, rabbits, etc.

Of course you can take down large game with a shotgun shooting bear-balls, but barring some miracle it is usually a close quarters defense weapon. When you definitely do not want a second shot.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

In some parts of the country, rifles are not allowed for harvesting whitetail. Hence, shotguns are used, with slug barrels and either rifled slugs or sabot slugs. I can attest, personally to their effectiveness against deer, as my first three deer were taken using shotguns. Then I moved out west and have used a .30-06 since.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

That is the law in southern Michigan. Not even a 30-30.

@Smokin Joe
Thank you for the explanation. I have never heard of a rifled slug. Never experienced this law.
For me a shotgun has always been a fast reaction point and click. Never considered them for downrange targets.
Now I know.

My dad, who has been known as a consummate marksman since his service during the Korean War, harvested a whitetail at 250 yards with a scoped shotgun (slug barrel) and a sabot slug. While that's considered a middlin' rifle shot in these parts (I'm 2000 miles away in shortgrass prairie), in the fields of Southern MD, that's considered remarkable, not only for distance, but that he had a clear shot that long. Apparently the deer was acting unconcerned and standing still, likely not expecting to be shot at from that far away.
Shotgun only areas are common in MD, NY, and MN, and may well be present in other states.
